Add Dharamshala and Guwahati in the venue box in which these two venues as of now is not present despite there are 2 matches scheduled in each of those stadiums Randomguy781 (talk) 15:42, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Format
The teams are divided into two groups (A and B) of five teams. Each team plays twice against all five teams in the other group (home and away) and once against all four of the teams in its group.
should be
Each team plays twice against all four teams in the same group (home and away) and once against all five of the teams in the other group. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Varad272004 (talk • contribs) 16:08, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But, that would give a Total of just 13 matches, But they play 14 matches each. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ)
The 14th match is accounted for by a home-and-away series against the team situated directly across from the other team. So in the table in Background#Format, MI play KKR, RR, DC, and LSG twice. They play SRH, RCB, PBKS, and GT once. MI are directly across from CSK, so they also play CSK twice. 4 home matches in group + 4 away matches in group + 4 home or away matches against teams not directly across from you in the table + 2 matches (1 home, one away) against the team directly across from you = 14 matches. Menzador (talk) 13:37, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are right..Wiki is incorrect as far as format is concerned..just add to this ..14th match is accounted for by one team playing twice from the one team from the other group...
(8 (Own group team twice) + 4 (Other group team once) + 2 (One team other group twice) 103.240.236.6 (talk) 04:45, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The wording on the 2022 page had the right idea, i.e.
The ten teams were divided into two groups of five. BCCI has announced in the group stage each team will be playing twice against the teams in their group and against the team in the same row in the other group; against the remaining four teams in the other group, each team will play only once.
The confusion now arise from the only listing of the tww groups appearing in a modified order (playing order) which any reference to "teams directly accross from each other" non-sensical. I can only guess the order of the teams became a sensitive issue and was changed as a result. I reverse engineered the 2024 tables that have been applied and if I list the lines in the order of merit from 2023 the table should be:
Group A Group B
-------+--------
LSG CSK
DC GT
MI SRH
RR PBKS
KKR RCB
I hope that helps. MPGL (talk) 00:00, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated it in the Article; The problem is seemingly over now. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 15:29, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed about the source being required. I found a second article (on IndiaTV's website) giving the same goups and order in an explicit table, but here's the sad part - the article specifically mentiones that "Organisers revealed the format and groups for the Indian Premier League 2024 season on Sunday, March 24. The two most successful IPL sides Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are set to face each other twice in league stages having been placed in different groups this season." which couldn't possibly be accfurate for two reasons.
a) Being in different groups would mean that they play each other only one except if they happen to be "directly across" each other on the table, which in their version of the table they is, but
b) According to the published fictures CSK and MI were NOT been scheduled to face each other twice in the 2024 season.
It's probably not our job as editors to correct bad reporting and the BCCI acting in unpublished ways, but these is a clear misalignment of the published facts and behaviour in this case. Who knows, it might even be a controversy somebody thought nobody would notice. Something like the BCCI and most powerful IPL franchises colluding to ensure their teams get an easier roster.
As for sources, the 2022 page also used a newspaper article as source for the new format based on randomly drawn groups as opposed to seeding on past performance. I'm yet to find anything official in this from the BCCI direct. Perhaps someone else have better luck. MPGL (talk) 16:06, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Usually, Records and Milestones are mentioned within the match summary using the 'notes' parameter; But, why it has a separate section now? 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 13:16, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I came here to say this. It will be pointless having a seperate section, as it will become super long with seventy four matches. They should be added at the math itself. Pharaoh496 (talk) 17:42, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Wowlastic10 There's no need to list entire squads here; they all have their own articles, listing all of them here in a table with layout inconsistency would be just an unnecessary Content fork. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 11:34, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 Then please attach the references given in that table to their respective articles. Wowlastic10 (talk) 12:18, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They are already included in the necessary articles. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 12:31, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Squad sources are available on respective squad articles (2024 edition or main article) or a better source; Sources related to withdrawn players are included in Withdrawn Players. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 14:25, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The format of the League stage is too complicated to be understood by just reading the paragraph. An example for it might help. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 14:51, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Following is the example I'm suggesting (I chose CSK because, they are the defending champions): -
CSK will play once against four teams in the other group – MI, KKR, RR and DC.
CSK will play twice (home and away) against all four teams in their group – SRH, RCB, PBKS and GT.
CSK will play twice (home and away) against team situated directly across from the other team – LSG (both teams situated at 3rd in Group).

Each tema will play one match from teams in other groups. 103.55.108.127 (talk) 17:06, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Source? The question seems to be on the format section: Each team will play once against four teams in their own group and twice against teams from the other group, as they seem to be saying teams play the other group only once. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:38, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Each team will play twice against the teams in its own group (8), once against the teams in other group (5) and once additional match against one team in the other group by random pick. 2409:408D:4D9C:66B6:4BD3:3389:A7C3:C94B (talk) 01:47, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not on random; it's against the team situated directly across from the other team. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 05:01, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
RCB are still alive in this tournament according to calculations, they can still reach 14 points, add their elimination status after their next loss. Wowlastic10 (talk) 04:48, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
With 14 points they could finish at Top 5; but, a minimum of 16 points needed for a Top 4 finish. See 2023 and 2022. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 04:53, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We can't say anything, nothing is impossible, just wait for one loss, they will be mathematically eliminated too. Wowlastic10 (talk) 04:59, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Last year if Mumbai Indians had not won their last match, then qualification criteria would be 14 points Wowlastic10 (talk) 05:01, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information in the "format" section is wrong!!
It should be changed to:
"Each team plays twice against the 4 other teams in their own group, twice against one team in the other group and once against remaining teams in the other group making it a total of 14 matches in the league stage. Ex. RCB plays 2 matches each against CSK, GT, SRH, PBKS (same group), twice against KKR (other group) and once each against MI, RR, LSG, and DC from the other group." 2003:DF:2F38:5500:29EF:B9DD:331D:AC87 (talk) 07:32, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 Mathematically, MI are still in race, I too know that are 90% eliminated, but still wait for official announcement
Wowlastic10 (talk) 07:14, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, its bad form. A potential scenario for MI to finish tied on points (and thus possibly go through on NRR) would be:
CSK: lose against GT, RR, RCB
SRH: lose against LSG, GT, PBKS
LSG: win against SRH, win against DC, lose against MI
DC: lose against RCB, LSG, RR
RCB: lose against PBKS, win against DC, CSK
PBKS: win against RCB, SRH, lose RR
GT: Lose against KKR, win over CSK and SRH
Assuming MI then win against KKR, that would place 6 teams tied on 12 points (CSK, SRH, RCB, PBKS, GT, and MI). Considering MI currently have NRR higher than some of them, it would def be possible. Extremely unlikely, but still possible. Which is the point. 184.162.200.211 (talk) 18:06, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is now mentioned as Eliminated whereas there is no official source for that information. As someone already mentioned, they may have been eliminated for all practical purposes, but it goes into official announcement when they are mathematically eliminated too. The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
It was proposed in this section that multiple pages be renamed and moved.
result: Procedural close. It is unfortunate that this move request must be closed; however, in the opening statement only one title can be proposed for each current title. A second title option can be proposed after the signed opening statement, but not within it. Feel free to reopen and use the correct format per WP:RM. P.I. As pointed out by User:Hey man im josh in a discussion here (Permalink) IPL Teams by season articles needs to be renamed to one of the above given title to follow the naming convention. I opened this discussion to get to a consensus on which title to be moved. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 03:34, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delhi Capitals in 2024 (WPL) → 2024 Delhi Capitals WPL season → Delhi Capitals at the 2024 Women's Premier League
Gujarat Giants in 2024 (WPL) → 2024 Gujarat Giants WPL season → Gujarat Giants at the 2024 Women's Premier League
Mumbai Indians in 2024 (WPL) → 2024 Mimbai Indians WPL season → Mumbai Indains at the 2024 Women's Premier League
UP Warriorz in 2024 → 2024 UP Warriorz season → UP Warriorz at the 2024 Women's Premier League
Also the WPL articles needs to be renamed. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 03:47, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that if this RM goes through all Teams by season articles (approx.160) since 2008 IPL are likely to be renamed as well. 𝓥𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷24𝓑𝓲𝓸 (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 03:51, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - @Vestrian24Bio I think the article's name then would be too long and it would be difficult to find for the readers, the earlier version ie. the normal version is alright, there is no need to change. Wowlastic10 (talk) 04:21, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: That's not what I was suggesting. My suggestion is as follows:
This is the standard naming convention used for season articles of teams in professional sports leagues. You're using the standard naming convention of teams at events, such as Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Pinging Wowlastic10 back for their thoughts on this suggestion instead. Support all. Well I don't think that there is any exact policy regarding this title in WP:CRITERIA. But in point of view of naming/title policy, I would prefer X(Team) season rather than Y(Team) in Year and It is easy to find that particular article to read by other readers. Thank you !
