The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.
If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.
When: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Where: The Cove, Dupont Circle, 1730 Connecticut Avenue NW, 2nd floor, 20009, DC

Welcome to Wikipedia. At least one of your recent edits, such as the edit you made to Template:Wikipedia policies and guidelines, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at the welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make some test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Thanks for creating the page on Nader's book. I spent a chunk of February dipping my toes into the shark-infested waters at the American Left talk page and the associated article, and I may have managed to kick a shark or two before escaping relatively unscathed. Or maybe I just replaced one shark with a different one. The results are at User:Flying_Jazz. Depending on your political views, you might find what's there hilarious or amusing or troubling or upsetting, but based on your creation of the article for Nader's book, your academic background, and the time you've been at Wikipedia, I'm hoping for the first option which is why I'm writing here. There must be some joy and fun at Wikipedia now and then! Flying Jazz (talk) 22:09, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
Some misunderstanding here. At 4:34, 25 February 2015,User:Cullen328 moved page List of African American men in STEM fields to Donald R. Brown on the basis that that was the actual topic, so I think the text has been moved rather than deleted. My only role was to delete the resulting redirect on the basis that it was implausible, but feel free to recreate the redirect if you disagree. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:00, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Djembayz,
The Editing team is asking for your help with VisualEditor. I am contacting you because you were one of the very first testers of VisualEditor, back in 2012 or early 2013. Please tell them what they need to change to make VisualEditor work better for you. The team has a list of top-priority problems, but they also want to hear about small problems. These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and try to fix these small things, too.
You can share your thoughts by clicking this link. You may respond to this quick, simple, anonymous survey in your own language. If you take the survey, then you agree your responses may be used in accordance with these terms. This survey is powered by Qualtrics and their use of your information is governed by their privacy policy.
More information (including a translateable list of the questions) is posted on wiki at mw:VisualEditor/Survey 2015. If you have questions, or prefer to respond on-wiki, then please leave a message on the survey's talk page.

Hi Djembayz, you are right with your post on the LB page about the real world implications of a hostile environment. However, the problem is that LB's problems are self-inflicted. It's sort of like trying to deal with a difficult customer at a business who behaves inappropriately. I like the point you made that WMF has to pull on their big kid boots and grow a spine, not defer to the unpaid volunteers of arbcom. But here we do have an individual behavior issue. I don't have an answer, but I wanted to tell you that I agree with your RL concerns, but as I know EC via Facebook and he's not satan, I really do liken this to a situation where you have two clients who both patronize a business, but whose paths should never cross, as opposed to two co-workers whose paths should never cross and one or both of them will ultimately get fired. I wish I had a definitive answer to your dilemma. Montanabw(talk) 01:13, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

The article List of cities impacted by current sea level rise has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the ((proposed deletion/dated))
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing ((proposed deletion/dated))
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Lappspira (talk) 07:41, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello!
First, on behalf of WikiProject X, thank you for trying out the WikiProject X pilot projects. I would like to get some anonymous feedback from you on your experience using the new WikiProject layout and tools. This way, we will know what we did right, and if we did something horribly wrong, we can try to fix it. This feedback won't be associated with your username, so please be completely honest. We are determined to improve the experience of Wikipedians, and your feedback helps us with that. (You are also welcome to leave non-anonymous feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject X.)
Please complete the survey here. The survey has two parts: the first part asks for your username, while the second part contains the survey questions. These two parts are stored separately, so your username will not be associated with your feedback. There are only nine questions and it should not take very long to complete. Once you complete the survey I will leave a handwritten note on your talk page as a token of my appreciation.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Harej (talk) 17:49, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

That's not exactly what I said now, is it? I'm not going to respond to a straw man. However, I will note that many users do not know how to use certain things, which is why we need to teach them. New users have a tutorial which they are presented with upon account creation. Does it focus on how to deal with incivility? Start there. A healthy community will defend its members as a reflex. Instead we see lots of editors who prefer to keep their heads down and allow others to engage in bad behavior without sticking their neck out. I've had admins lie about me, make false accusations in my own block log, and continue to spread lies -- who am I supposed to complain to when the very people who are supposed to protect the community are the biggest bullies? Sorry, but my experience here is obviously at odds with your own. I don't trust anyone in any position of power or authority here, and I have very good reason for it. Viriditas (talk) 01:21, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 14:14, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tebello Nyokong. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Given your usually commendable efforts to try to make Wikipedia a safer place, and despite my disappointment that your chosen set of illustrative safe workplace guidelines (which I now seem unable to find, but you linked to them during or just after Lightbreather's "show trial") said they would never consider complaints of discrimination against 'priviliged' groups such as whites and males (meaning people like me, tho I don't want to put in time and effort discussing that question anytime soon), just in case you don't already know (as you haven't commented), I thought you might want to know that SageRad has a proposal to set up an anti-bullying task force, discussion of which stretches from here to here. Unsurprizingly, some people don't think Wikipedia has a bullying problem and prefer to call Mobbing 'piling on' and view it as a good thing that helps bring about 'consensus' - and those who say this are probably just the unusually honest tip of the iceberg. The Wikimedia Foundation is currently running a consultation on the value and planning process of Wikimania, and is open until 18 January 2016. The goals are to (1) build a shared understanding of the value of Wikimania to help guide conference planning and evaluation, and (2) gather broad community input on what new form(s) Wikimania could take (starting in 2018).
After reviewing the consultation, we'd like to hear your feedback on on this survey.
In addition, feel free to share any personal experiences you have had at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.
With thanks,

Last December, I invited you to share your views on the value of Wikimedia conferences and the planning process of Wikimania. I am getting in touch with you because I am helping to plan and organize Indigenous Peoples' Day programming during WikiConference 2016 and I think your feedback about our direction would be invaluable. If you are interested, perhaps I can share our vision and what we have planned to date? Input during the conference from Wikipedia users who focus on these projects and adding this content is also an important piece of this. Thanks! Kellyjeanne9 (talk) 21:20, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.
For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
