I was reviewing the Jonas Brothers page in order to make sure there was a neutral stand-point on the article itself, but coming to a desicon that it is not. I read the aritcle with a sense that it was written by pre-teens, and more into a fansite. Which you stated Wikipedia is not. I will try to make a "neutral" feel to the artical, by adding some crticsim. And to assure you I am neutral when it comes to this also, but I have also noticed many Disney shows, produtctions articals completly bias to almost to a Fan Site. So the reason I am telling you this is because I would like to know if you can give me some tips? Thank You. Mr.Willison (talk) 06:36, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mr.Willson,
I'm happy to help. Keep in mind that being "neutral" does not necessarily mean that you have to write critical things to counter-balance the good stuff, it just means that the good stuff needs to be written in a neutral tone and backed up with good references. Perhaps the most important way you can improve an article is by constantly asking the question, "why am I writing this?" (or, "why did someone else write this?") This sounds easy, but it can actually be quite hard. Are you writing because you want to share a fact, or are you really sharing an opinion?
For example, most Jimi Hendrix fans would argue that he is the best guitar player to ever live, but is this a fact, or opinion? Instead of writing, "he was one of the best guitar players ever," you would need to find a fact that supports this opinion, such as "Rolling Stone ranked Jimi Hendrix as one of the greatest guitar players ever," and then insert a reference to the Rolling Stone article. It may feel annoying at first, but you'll probably come to see that by making something as neutral as possible, you can actually make a better case for the point you want to share with the readers. In other words, you don't want readers to be able to question anything they read—you want to have rock-solid support for every claim you make.
If this seems a little vague, check out Wikipedia's Five Pillars. There is a lot of good information there to get you started if you follow the links. For example, the section on neutrality states that any statement that is challenged can be removed by any editor at any time!
I'll give you a "neutrality" example from the Jonas Bro's page: "Because of their major success with Disney and Hollywood Records, Disney has signed the brothers to two Disney Channel Original Series..." Now this might seem like an obvious claim, but can anyone really support it with facts? Can you really say that they were signed because of their success? A totally neutral article would simply state that they were signed, and would leave the reader to make the connection that it was because of their success. In other words, it is a fact that they were signed, but it is an opinion that they were signed "because of" their success. Fortunately, stuff like this is really easy to fix once you spot it, you just have to take out the "because of" part.
The JB article is actually looking a little better these days in terms of neutrality. It's not perfect, but it is better. It could use some help with structuring, though. It just doesn't read like an encyclopedia article yet. For example, the intro or "lead section" should be at least 1 paragraph—so it could use some expansion. If you need more inspiration, try checking out some other articles about bands. The ones for AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, and Mariah Carey are all featured articles, which means they are considered a "standard" in terms of the issues discussed above. Take care and good luck JohnnyCalifornia 08:21, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See this is exactly what that page does not need—websites run by people who make a living off claiming that they invented the dance. You really couldn't find a more biased source. JohnnyCalifornia

As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
