A photo would be good. Of the guy too I guess since it's a biography. The content is still a little bit abstract for me. What did he write for the artist's book? Descriptions? Stories to go with the art? Good job on creating [[baby powder] too. Important stuff. Chafing is no fun at all. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:12, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm... yeah, a photo of one of the books would be useful. I'll have to see if I can get that. I've got a photo of him, but I have to see about getting proper permission/lisensing for it. (I've not uploaded an image here before, and I want to do it properly.) I need to find out more about the books - it would be nice to fill that out some. Thanks for you edits to the article. Heh, the baby powder thing I did a while ago, but forgot about it when I initally made my list of articles. It popped up in my watchlist today when someone vandalized it. Hello there! Over the past fortnight, more or less, I've been working on this article about the holotype (type specimen) of an australopithecine species. I'm thinking about a GAN later this month, but before I submit it I wanted to get some fresh input particularly from someone who's interested in paleontology and fossils. Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cliff smithtalk 19:45, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Coordinators election. An election has been long overdue, and therefore one will begin shortly. If you wish to stand, please put your name in by June 28, when voting will start. Members are encouraged to vote for the candidate they wish to support by July 21 at the Coordinator Elections. The Ed17 has decided not to stand for re-election. His work as Assistant Coordinator, along with Kevinalewis, since the last elections in October is highly appreciated by all members of the project.
17 positions remain unfilled at the Job Centre. Members who are active project contributors are encouraged to apply even if they can only fill a position for a short time.

Task force and related news
His Dark Materials task force has begun. This task force is dedicated to improving all articles in the scope of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The main purpose of this taskforce is to expand, cite, and promote all articles in scope of the series. They welcome any advice or help that members of WikiProject Novels may be able to offer. If interested, drop a note on their talk page.
– Position of editor for the task force has been undertaken by Pmlinediter.
Hi, I have been a member of this project for a few months now, and after finally gotten to grips with Wikipedia I have decided to take on the role of writing this newsletter (currently by myself, but any help would be appreciated) with some helpful tips from The Ed17. After undertaking this I realise why it was so difficult to keep it going. I will, however, persevere. From the members, I would encourage you to vote in the Coordinator elections, and take up roles at the Job Centre. The project has struggled recently, and I am hoping to try and revive it. If, with the publication of this newsletter, there are a couple of things that aren't quite up-to-date (like the Collaboration part), you can be certain I am working on it. I will be trying to get a newsletter out on around the 21st of every month. Finally, thanks for the help Ed. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 23:41, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Current debates
A Kenneth Oppel task force has been proposed. You can comment here. Oppel is a Canadian author who specialises in Young adult fiction.
Novel related news
American writer Michael Hemp wins the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Award in the Action/Adventure category for his novel, The Nadjik Pheromone.
This is my first attempt at the newsletter, and I hope it at least gets close to the previous high standards set by Kevinalewis and The Ed17. I will once again encourage you to vote in the Coordinator elections, as I hope it could be the springboard to revitalise the project. I'll keep working on the newsletter, partially because I like the stress, and partially because we need it to get members and would-be members interested. Hopefully the start of great things. Regards, Alan.
Collaboration of the Month
Because there has been little activity on our Collaboration page for a long time, I have made an executive decision, and chosen The Tin Drum as our Collaboration of the month. All members are asked to assist where they can. The next collaboration is due for selection on 21 July, 2009 so nominate and vote.
Newsletter challenge
This month's article is Mindplayers by science fiction author Pat Cadigan. It is a previous, uncompleted challenge.

WikiProject Novels • (inc. novellas, novelettes & short stories) Announcements and open tasks
Recently a new worklist had been created and quietly arrived, the Cleanup listing which gives a fairly comprehensive hit list of "novels" related articles that have been tagged for something or other.
Since then a new Article alerts listing has also been added of more topic and "urgent" items worthy of our attention.
Hey Aleta! Didja miss me?
Hi, been trying to let you alone, but, I have a problem, maybe you and the APK brother can help with. I uploaded a photo- (Hey, I've now uploaded hundreds! Can't freaking believe it.) Anyhow, the problem with Rolf de Heer, is that normally I add photos to musicians work groups. This is an alternative WAY cool television and film producer. (I dare you to check out his *Vertigo website- but really the thing is, I can't find a way to put a caption under the photograph. Help? --leahtwosaints (talk) 18:08, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Leah, there's an optional caption parameter for the infobox. I added it with just his name, but now you can alter it to say something else if you want. LadyofShalott 13:02, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
How do you change the world? You can start by writing an incredible article for the world's encyclopedia. Moni3 kicks it old school again with Stonewall riots - a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn. [...] [T]hey have become the defining event that marked the start of the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world. It's a featured article hitting the mainpage this Sunday to mark the 40th anniversary of the events. So first off, wow! Clever and cool. Moni3 has been recently named hottest delegate to Obama's bookclub but that may not be official yet. (Shhh!)
Otto4711 mentioned that gee we really should swamp the DYK section with LGBT-related articles for use on the 28th as well. We have eight or so in the holding area and if you push yourself to get an article together you might be able to get in on the fun. Do this now!
The official rules for DYKs can be found here. Once you have expanded an article 5-fold or created an article with at least 1,500 characters of prose, place your DYK thread here. Use this handy tool to count your 1,500 characters. As a suggestion, when you add your potential hook, include the character count and a link to the source(s) that confirm the hook. These will be confirmed anyway but may help.
The layout for the individual quotes is here (just copy/paste into one of the red links on Portal:Transgender/Random quote). Then this counter has to be upped to match the new # of total quotes (not counting quote zero).
Obama proclamation
On June 1, President Barack Obama declared June 2009 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, citing the riots as a reason to "commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans". Excerpts at the bottom.
F*ck me I'm famous
I was interviewed by Wikipedia Signpost, the weekly in-house newsletter, for the WikiProject report. The Signpost has nearly 1,000 Wikipedian subscribers and arguably many of those folks actually read it. It came about rather quickly and my worst fears - that it was an elaborate hoax by a troll - were apparently unfounded. I hope y'all feel I did fine by the project, I did my best to avoid the phrase "man-humping, cock-sucking, doggy-style loving queer" but otherwise did ok.
Free image appeal
A friendly reminder to consider taking photos while you're out and about at various Dyke marches and Pride parades. Consider donating them to the world at Wikicommons. I'm sooo totally over having to deal with lovely images being deleted and argued about. If they are just free they are then also freely usable worldwide. And no, they don't need photos of your cha-cha or hoo-hoo-dilly.
Sonny and Cher's daughter was a famous lesbian and now he's a famous transman, possibly the most famous in the world. This also serves as a friendly reminder that we recently updated Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies/Guidelines - it's not perfect but should help inform on those gnip-gnop battles that do seem to drag on, and not in the good way.
As part of the redecorating at our talkpage, the article alerts and keyword search alerts are handily located at the top of the page. Always fascinating to see what's up. All help appreciated on those.
Glambert
Adam Lambert is soooo gay - surprised? Neither is anyone else. Nuff said. David Ogden Stiers was outed but apparently he wasn't terribly in either.
The LGBT studies project does have its own free Internet Relay Chat channel, #wikipedia-en-lgbtconnect, for coordination, collaboration and socializing. This channel is hosted on Freenode and can be accessed in one of two ways: If you already have an IRC client, click the link to the left. If you do not have an IRC client, you'll need to get one installed on your computer first. Once you've done this, then click on the link to the left.
For more general information on IRC and a listing of other useful Wikipedia-related channels, see Wikipedia:IRC channels.
The project had at one point another channel at #LGBTprojectconnect but as the original people associated with the setting up and administration of that channel have seemed to have disappeared, this new channel has been set up. Plus the new channel is inline with required naming conventions for Wikipedia related IRC channels. So, feel free to use this channel. Such a channel gives opportunity to discuss the latest happening on articles, the LGBT project itself, latest happening in your life with "wiki-friends" here, etc.. You can say things on there you normally wouldn't here on Wikipedia (keeping it civil of course) like talk about the latest hot guy/girl or tell a joke.. you get the point. Anyway, see you there - eventually!

There are many well-respected LGBT leaders in all professional fields, including the arts and business communities. [I]n both the White House and the Federal agencies -- openly LGBT employees are doing their jobs with distinction and professionalism. [...] LGBT youth should feel safe to learn without the fear of harassment, and LGBT families and seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and respect. At the international level, I have joined efforts at the United Nations to decriminalize homosexuality around the world. Here at home, I continue to support measures to bring the full spectrum of equal rights to LGBT Americans. These measures include enhancing hate crimes laws, supporting civil unions and Federal rights for LGBT couples, outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption rights, and ending the existing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in a way that strengthens our Armed Forces and our national security. [...] As long as the promise of equality for all remains unfulfilled, all Americans are affected. If we can work together to advance the principles upon which our Nation was founded, every American will benefit. During LGBT Pride Month, I call upon the LGBT community, the Congress, and the American people to work together to promote equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. [...] I call upon the people of the United States to turn back discrimination and prejudice everywhere it exists. - Barack Obama, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, 2009, The White House (June 1, 2009).

Re: CoM's page
I wasn't trying to bait him. I just don't like me or a couple of my friends here on Wiki being called "trolls" by someone who doesn't know the meaning of the word and shouldn't go around calling names once they just came off a incivility block. Was it harsh? Yes. But I feel my statement was necessary to get through to him that his behavior is not necessary and will cause him more problems than good. I will honor his and your request to back off, but I would ask that he do the same and chill with the comments and actually would ask for an apology for the "troll" comment to the people who said it to, but I won't hold my breath. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 05:48, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Coordinator Election
Hello. The Coordiantor Election has begun. All members are encouraged to vote by the deadline, July 28. To vote simply add support to the comments and questions for.. section of the member of your choice.
You did not explain yourself properly when you came to my talk page. This is bizarre because it concerned the first contribution of an anonymous IP from Cheltenham. That is why the tone of your message was quite inappropriate. If this had been a known user fine, but it wasn't. Please be more careful in future. Did you notice the banned sock of Gregory Clegg(talk·contribs·deleted contribs·logs·filter log·block user·block log) who posted immediately above you on my talk page as 32.141.255.213 (talk ·contribs·deleted contribs·logs·filter log·block user·block log)? I thought that's what administrators are supposed to control. I have removed that section now. Mathsci (talk) 08:39, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
BTW I just looked at the editing history of A.K.Nole(talk·contribs·deleted contribs·logs·filter log·block user·block log). I believe he is wikistalking me. He has already tried to declare my username illegal (reported at ANI), so I have ceased to assume good faith with his edits. He hasn't edited my second recent article, but has put tags on one of the main wikilinks in the lede of Chateau of Vauvenargues, i.e. on Bastide (Provençal manor) which is hardly something you find by accident given the cedilla. He seems to be making trouble for himself. Unlike him I will dig up a reference, which is not particularly hard. If you don't do anything about this, I know other administrators (who incidentally respect the privacy of emails without being asked). Mathsci (talk) 08:54, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
I hope you will not object if I comment here, since I have been mentioned by name and Mathsci has levelled some serious charges against me -- charges which I emphatically deny. For the record the anonymous IP was indeed me, for some reason my signin had failed. (I added my signature to some but not all of the edits I made when I realised that). The geolocation is not accurate by the way, I believe the IP range covers Gloucestershire -- Mathsci is very sensitive on the subject of outing and he will no doubt extend the same respect to others. The username issue (not what Mathsci states) was thrashed out at AN/I and archived here where you will see that no-one saw fit to propose, let alone take any action against either Mathsci or myself: there can be no good reason for Mathsci to raise it again. The Bastide link was publicised at another AN/I report here where Mathsci had brought charges against another editor, who had misunderstood the rather rare way in which Mathsci was using this unusual word. You will see that I spend quite a lot of time correcting minor errors in, raising questions on and deleting unsourced material from random articles; I have dabbled in AFD discussions, reporting copyvios and improper usernames; I have spent very little time at all interacting with Mathsci or articles that he has previously edited. I have twice formally notified Mathsci at his talk page that I find his behaviour towards me threatening [1] and uncivil [2]. I trust that this context will help you to evaluate Mathsci's messages to you. A.K.Nole (talk) 11:54, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Just a quick note to say I have not replied up to now because I'm not sure what else to say. LadyofShalott 17:25, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh - I will add that, yes, admins deal with sockpuppets, but I was not at all familiar with the editor you mention. As such, I had no way to recognize that IP as a sock. In the future, if he reappears, you should post a request at WP:SSP. LadyofShalott 17:29, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Since you have been caught up in this, I wonder whether you would be willing to give a third opinion. I believe that the suggestions I have made at Talk:Butcher group have been intended to improve the article, and in fact User:Mathsci has adopted all three of them (acknowledging one openly). At the same time he has adopted a very negative attitude, characterising my comments as trolling and frequently suggesting that I deserve to be blocked for them. Am I way out of line here? Is he? I would appreciate your opinion. These threats are getting quite unpleasant. A.K.Nole (talk) 07:02, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
A.K.Nole made this edit [3] where he copied and pasted material from one one wikipedia article Butcher group out of context and without sources into another. This was disruptive editing. What is quite sad about A.K.Nole's editing in this case is that he seems totally unaware that the passage he copied only makes sense in the original article. Besides that he doesn't seem to understand that the physics stub is written in the language of physics and concerns the general case of renormalization that uses Feynman diagrams not the "toy models" I have written about. A.K.Nole's edit summary describes the Butcher group article as "excellent". All this adds up unfortunately to disruptive behaviour. So far in his editing career, A.K.Nole has not added any substantial content to wikipedia. Other expert editors have been usefully editing Butcher group which lies between 3 scientific disciplines: pure mathematics, computer science and theoretical physics. The diff of A.K.Nole indicates that he is up to no good on wikipedia. Mathsci (talk) 07:51, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Please also note this warning from an administrator. [4]Mathsci (talk) 07:59, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
This edit is also problematic [5]. The elimination of one variable from the non-linear equation using the linear equation is a mathematical triviality. Mathsci (talk) 08:23, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
MathSci, I think AKNole does seem to be asking reasonable questions. As for the mathematical triviality issue, stating it just the way you did on this page, less the problematic edit complaint, was all the response needed. As for the copy of content into another article, AKN did attribute it to the originating article; I'm not sure what could possibly be wrong with a comment of "excellent". As for whether the addition of the actual content was appropriate or relevant to the article, that is a content dispute upon which I am not qualified to comment. I see you have reverted the addition. If AKN thinks it should be there, you should continue that discussion on the talk page of Minimal subtraction scheme, seeking input from other editors of that article, and possibly from other members of the math and physics projects. AKNole, I would caution you not to get into an edit war over this (this is not to imply you have previously). LadyofShalott 16:45, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for that. I shall take your advice, and be especially cautious about edit warring! This regrettable dispute between Mathsci seems to have erupted on my talk page, and would suggest (if you have any further interest in it) that you go there to keep the discussion centralised. A.K.Nole (talk) 17:30, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Just a pointer
Hi, I found a fact on WMC and Mathsci's relationship that could be construed as "COI violation", so left this to ANI[6], please comment on this. Thanks.--Caspian blue 15:17, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Have a fun weekend. Onions cook up great on the grill. In foil or on kabobs. And you can go for shallots too, if you want to get all fancy. Remember, you are what you eat! ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:06, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, you too! I had to pull up the diff. to find your message. I notice you made some edit to Zanthoxylum americanum and asked questions in the edit summary. I've expanded it a good bit since then, including some info on what it's used for. Your question about where the oil comes from is a good one, and my sources address that. I'll add a line about it. I'm also about to add something about butterflies that feed on it. I'm finding enough that I hope I can get a DYK out of this. (BTW, there is a difference in pronunciation between Shalott, something like shuh-lott', and shallot - of course, more like shall'-ut). I do like to eat onions though. Did you know... that an oil extracted from the bark and berries of the prickly-ash was used in traditional (alternative? folk?) medicine for typhoid, skin diseases, digestive ailments, impurity of the blood and chronic rheumatism?
Did you know... that the pricklyash produces an oil in its berries and bark that has been studied for antifungal properties and cytotoxic effects? ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:35, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

I'll ask Becksguy if he wants to participate. I told him a GA might help in a future RfA. (he's already earned the mop, IMHO) APKcoffee talk 03:22, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

I've been working on a new article, Zanthoxylum americanum. There are three images at a USDA page with explicit information that they are copyright-free. Can someone snag the images at [8] and upload them, please? If you do that and just give me the file names, I can add them to the article. Anyone? LadyofShalott 21:18, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! CoM did a couple; now with the one you added and the other two you found, the article can be really pretty! Yippee! I want to try for DYK. In the mustaches section above, CoM made a couple hook suggestions. Do you have any thoughts? LadyofShalott 01:00, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Hook submitted and apparently approved for DYK? LadyofShalott 03:14, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
(ec) De nada. Looks like the DYK hook has already been approved. Good job! I tweaked the image placement and removed one (pix shouldn't be in the ref section), but feel free to revert. Do you know how to create a Commons category? (it's simple, but let me know if you need help) It would be nice to include a Commons link in the EL section. APKcoffee talk 03:17, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Zanthoxylum americanum
On July 7, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Zanthoxylum americanum, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
Hey there. I've noticed the discussion at Casliber's page and wanted to point out two quick things: Roughly, plant articles are written in a style more akin ton in-depth, a but non-technical field guide, hence why we don't usually put authorities in the body text of the article (lists are a different issue, though). Another point is that the discussion regarding the ordering of sections is a bit moot as the generally agreed section order for a basic article is description→taxonomy→distribution + habitat→other sections as appropriate (the detailed breakdown is here, but don't take it to heart too much. Only a few article will have even 2/3 of those sections.) Circeus (talk) 15:39, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. This was my first botanical article creation, but I enjoyed doing it, and will probably try my hand at some more; feedback and information like this helps! LadyofShalott 15:44, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I could see a few problems with it, potentially. Unfortunately, Christian eschatology is not my strongest suit, so I may myself be far less than the best judge of it, and might even be myself mistaken. I would think that the Christianity project would be the better place to raise the issue, because it's a bit more active so far as I can tell (I may be prejudiced there, of course) and the subject seems to me to be, basically, exclusively a Christian one. But it might not be a bad idea to start a section of the Bible project talk page providing a link to the discussion on the Christianity talk page. John Carter (talk) 13:49, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

To you and all the other ageist voters. And I say that as someone who often opposes based on maturity issues. We should treat people as individuals and judge them on their merits. I also blame you for the torment I'm now experiencing over the George Li AfD which could have been avoided by a short painless speedy approval. Tsk tsk tsk. I hope you have a great weekend. It looks like I'm moving to your area since Drmies hasn't made me feel welcome in his. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:13, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Your point about treating people as individuals is well taken. I don't think I can accept the blame for the George Li thing... and what torment anyway? :p I hope things go well for you wherever you may move, and that you are also having a good weekend! LadyofShalott 18:24, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
I've been waiting for your next plant article... what's the hold-up? ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:38, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
That's a lovely photo. Feel free to sign up for the 2010 bacon challenge. I think it will kick off late fall or winter, but I guess we could do another push this year. I thought maybe a break was needed. But there seems to be substantial interest, so maybe we should get muddy this fall? There's too much other stuff going on in the summer I think. But demand does seem high for more bacon, and I know Shallots was very disappointed she didn't get to do a bacon article last time around. ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:45, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Re [9]--I'm sorry, that holy claim just went too far, but I'm sure I overreacted and I'm glad you reframed the sentence. My colleagues were tickled this morning when I told them what the article claimed (the school is around the corner from us), and what, no doubt, the kids are taught there at a hefty sum. Most private schools here were founded right after desegregation, and that tells you something. Thanks Lady! Drmies (talk) 17:01, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I quite enjoyed your request for a statement from God. I didn't realize you had done that. (I didn't look at the history.) I definitely understand what you are saying about the history of private schools in the area; My alma mater (just a little bit north of there) was founded only to school white, gentile boys. Thank goodness it's come a long, long way from what was decreed in the will that caused its formation. LadyofShalott 17:09, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Didn't know you were an Alabama girl lady! No wonder I sensed this almost mystical connection, a bond that can never be broken, etc. etc. So...culture or agriculture? Drmies (talk) 17:24, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Sonia Sotomayor, Clarence Thomas, and Barack Obama (and his family) are all products of non-public schools. So let's be careful about generalizing about where there is and isn't opportunity and equality. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:43, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Lady, I am sorry I forgot to report on the drywall at one of Montgomery's finest institutions--but there is nothing to report there. The computer lab did look very nice, but not because of the presence of Dell computers. It is clean and new, that's the nice thing about it. Unlike public schools in this state, which don't seem to have the money (easily explained by our tax structure) to spend on such niceties as buildings and renovations and computer rooms and central air, the private places are decking their stuff out nicely. I do not know at present if they read more or better books at those fine places. Drmies (talk) 17:44, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Need help
Aleta, I need your help. It appears there are two articles about the same person. I don't really know how to merge them, propose it, or whatever, but they are: Mike Kinsella, who is in a one-man-band called, Owen. (??!!) --Leahtwosaints (talk) 16:12, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
I've added the merger proposal templates to the articles. Let's see if there's any discussion. I have no feeling for which title should be the final one. If you do, perhaps you could comment on that on the relevant talk pages. LadyofShalott 17:40, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you so much. Hey, do you know who or where to turn to to ask questions about uploading both GDFL images under Creative Commons and non-free images? The Flickr upload tool doesn't work anymore, and I can not find one single person willing to explain how to upload at least the free images there. I am going INSANE! The guy who built the Bryan Flickr tool to upload them no longer works with Commons. I can't figure out how to do it manually. Where can I (and four other editors-- one with a couple FA-articles he wrote single handedly under his belt asking ME!) find out the rules and maybe get somebody to walk us through the process? I mean, I ask people to give up their copyrights, in exchange for attribution, and now, they are saying, "Hey, what happened to my photos?" And I'm the slowest one in the world to learn that stuff. I can hardly figure out how to set my alarm clock. However, when that upload tool worked, I sucessfully uploaded hundreds of needed photos- many of which you can see on my user page. Help? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:02, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm willing to help you, but as I said on my talk page, I don't understand what you mean by "both GDFL images under Creative Commons and non-free images". I uploaded a few images from flickr this morning (btw, broken flickr upload tool = sucks), but if that's where you're running into problems, click here or here to see how I did it. If you already know how to manually upload from flickr, and this has nothing to do with your question, then disregard my rambling and slap me with a trout. APKthat's not my name 17:20, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, APK beat me with his offer of help, but the only thing else I have to suggest at this point would be to ask at Wikipedia talk:Uploading images. Since I have not yet ventured to upload anything (got to try one of these days), I'm not qualified to help. LadyofShalott 17:23, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Possible spoofing
There's been a long term problem with a troll spoofing Matt Sanchez. Based upon this edit that problem has possibly recurred again. Durova279 21:08, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
I know I've seen mention of that before. Well, I have no idea if it is Matt or someone spoofing him, but I've done nothing relative on the article or its talk page on quite some time that could even begin to provoke such a reaction (mostly I'm refraining from doing anything there for now, but I think I copyedited something slightly). Maybe we need a checkuser? LadyofShalott 00:14, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
As I noted on Durova's talk page, the IP geolocates to Kabul, Afghanistan which is a recent known location of Matt. - ALLST✰R▼echowuz here 06:30, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
For people with a certain level of technical skill it's not difficult to spoof an IP address. The accusation the IP made at my user talk doesn't look like Matt at all; it looks like an attempt to spread hate and discontent. Durova280 14:58, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't see that in the history of your talk page. Did you mean this page instead? LadyofShalott 15:41, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
German politicians
There's actually a bit on Dr. Blofeld's user talk page about why he wanted them done that way. Personally, it's no skin off my nose - just as easy to change "is" to "was" as it is to add it in in the first place. I'm merely doing them that way because that's how he began them, and I thought it best to keep the pattern going. (BTW, could you please respond on my talk page? I tend to be an oblivious soul, and will forget this conversation ever happened if you don't prod me...) --User:AlbertHerringIo son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 02:06, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
As I say, no skin off my nose. Incidentally, funny it should be you messaging me about this - my mother was just watching Marple, and commenting on how they'd completely ruined The Mirror Crack'd, and how she didn't recognize it. To which I prodded her, gently, with a reminder that they'd promised Murder with Mirrors, instead...
At any rate, I'm just glad the doom hasn't come upon me as yet. Oh...and nice pictures on your userpage - I'm a fan of the pre-Raphaelites as well. --User:AlbertHerringIo son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 02:16, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
No, no, I quite understand - thanks for the kind words. Honestly, I wish there were some way to get them done a little more completely and quickly at the same time. But I find that masses of redlinks tend to be a little intimidating for a lot of people, and that if there's at least a stub waiting on the other end of the link, then people might be more inclined to contribute, at least by expanding upon what's there. Besides, Rjwilmsi has said he's willing to help flesh them out, so as long as he's OK with it I don't mind doing it like this. (Did I mention I'm hell-bent on pushing us ever nearer to the 3 million article mark? Honestly, I had hoped we'd be there by now.)
Indeed, ideally there would be a bot creating 10 articles a minute with full translation. That would indeed be the best solution.Dr. BlofeldWhite cat 17:55, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Ouch! I'll keep using my electronic alarm clock. That's painful, but amusing! LadyofShalott 15:19, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, the poem claims it's a "tender" little flame... Thanks for italicizing the title--I didn't know that existed. Are you now going to go through every individual book to italicize? ;) (Or, more seriously, am I supposed to do that for every book, CD, etc.? I don't mind, but I'd like to know. Thanks!) Drmies (talk) 16:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Then purge your cache. You'll see your Wikipedia logo at the very top left hand, replaced by a 'GeoLocate an IP' box. Just type in or paste in an IP number and click the search button. A new tab/window will open giving you nice little details about the IP address. - ALLST✰R▼echowuz here 09:42, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh cool. I'll check that out. I'd been meaning to ask you how you came up with that information. Thanks! LadyofShalott 15:06, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Semi protect
I notice from your userpage history that you have an IP fan in UNITED STATES MINNESOTA ROCHESTER, going back to June 28. You should semi-protect indef your userpage as I've had mine done. No IP has any business editing the userpage, only the user talk page. - ALLST✰R▼echowuz here 00:54, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Done. Yeah, I don't know why someone cares what font I use on my userpage. If it were just me, I'd let it go, but others such as yourself are spending energy to revert the IP. (Thanks!) LadyofShalott 01:50, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Transwiki
In light of the recent events I think it might be a good time to make a new project proposal at councils and organise a project which concentrates on transferring content from other wikipedias but in a way which is much more efficient and can done with no community concerns. If I make a proposal in a day or two can you comment as I feel we both share the same view that it is important to transfer content from other wikipedias but done adequately as part of a project coordination.Dr. BlofeldWhite cat 19:06, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Sure, I'd be glad to support such a project. Just point me towards it when you create it. LadyofShalott 19:10, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
OK, I'm considering making a proposal in a day or two. If you briwse any of the other wikis particularly German, French and Dutch the amount of content missing is enormous and I think we should be doing something more large scale on here to faciliate it. Maybe a task force of the missing encyclopedia articles project or something but we needs groups of translators and well a lot of people!! P.S. I love posting on your talk page. It is like writing on a silk sheet in a lilac pen if you know what I mean. It almost looked scented! Cool!Dr. BlofeldWhite cat 19:14, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
It would definitely be a good thing to increase trans-wiki cooperation, in any way we can. Thanks for the complement on my page! :) LadyofShalott 05:12, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
When it rains, it... sh*ts on you...
OK, Like the previous indie guy with the band, Owen Please read the talk page for Regina Zernay, at: Talk:Méchant. She's providing her own photos, write up, notability (heck, I don't know, I'm just the infobox creator cleaning crew!) But the number of non-consecutive bands she's in-- where she's the primary, and the fact that she's not only editing her page(S) (which to me, means she's reading the instructions for using the Wikipedia-- unlike my old buddies, Ron Holloway (where you can look at his page and tell right where I got sick of coddling him) and User:Poetiik writing her own article, again, unknowing. You're the lady with the mop. I just scrub the floors! ;) --Leahtwosaints (talk) 04:32, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Hmm... Méchant does not look very notable to me, but Frog47 argues otherwise. The only admin tool that would possibly apply a speedy deletion, which I almost did, but has been previously declined. I suggest taking it to AfD. Otherwise, I suggest pointing the editor to WP:AUTO and WP:COI. LadyofShalott 15:38, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm lame, what is AFD? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:29, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
care to look this one over? Pluk van de Petteflet. Note the carefully templated italicization of the title...for you... Drmies (talk) 04:53, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Very nice... Too bad it hasn't been translated into English; I was thinking about looking for it in my library until I read that line. Is there any significance to the eponym? (Is it any sort of pun, or anything else interesting?) LadyofShalott 05:10, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, and thanks for filling out the talk page. Oh, the book is wonderful. They say it's for children 6-10 but I'm reading it to my three-year old and she loves it (she understands my Dutch perfectly). The title, well, there's the funny alliteration (also in the Norwegian translation), "pluk" is probably something like a tuft of hair (he's a little unruly), and "petteflet," I'm sure Schmidt invented that because it sounds so funny in Dutch ("flat," with an 'a' and pronounced as the English word means "high-rise"). The problem comes later, when it turns out that Mevrouw Helderder (Aagje's mother) enlists the help of a cat to kill Dollie the Pigeon: the cat is called the "Flattekat," with an 'a', and I never know if I should read /flatəkat/ or /flɛtekɛt/. (I chose the first.) I'm certain she's still laughing over us parents having to figure that out.
I'm going to see if the movie is on iTunes (movies are on iTunes, right?). Come by and see it! Thanks again, Drmies (talk) 06:06, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
No Pluk on iTunes...I can order the DVD, but it's code 2. Hey, if you ever get to be president, can you put a stop to that regional coding nonsense? Thanks! Drmies (talk) 04:44, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do, but seeing as how I have no plans to run for POTUS... So there's no US-compatible version of the film either? Bummer. What is the reason for those regional codes anyway? LadyofShalott 02:14, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Homosexuality and the Baha'i Faith
Well you don't need to discuss changes unless they're controversial, but I disagree with the name change so you should go through WP:RM. The page was almost entirely written as an extension of Baha'i articles, so I think that gets more jurisdiction, if there is such a thing. The article doesn't make a distinction between lesbian, gay, or bisexual, and it doesn't address transgenderism in any way, so I took the name change as a frivolous muddying of the title. If you read the article I think you'll agree. Cuñado ☼ - Talk 01:42, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Done tweaked. My original version was quite a bit more concise, but your article does have merit in being more comprehensive. ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:49, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks to you and DrMies for the tweakage. "Concise"? Yeah, "Quercus breviloba is a plant" is indeed more concise than my version. I like having at least a little content to the article though. LadyofShalott 03:42, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Lady
You recently commented on my new page titled Naeim Ghalili. As far as your query, no I am not Naeim Ghalili and therefore its not an autobiography.

OK, thanks for the clarification, Neil. The similarity of your user name to Ghalili's middle name and birthyear made me suspect you were he. I'll be glad to try to answer any questions you have. I'm not sure I have any specific comments right now - you have seen the changes already that I made to the article you started. Do you have any questions? Let me know! LadyofShalott 04:24, 29 July 2009 (UTC) Just wanted to know if the page is properly made. And if I have violated any rules. If so what must I do to correct them. Hi. In light of recent events and community concerns about the way in which content is transferred I have proposed a new wikiproject which would attempt to address any of the concerns and done in an environment where a major group of editors work together to transfer articles from other wikipedias in the most effective way possible without BLP or referencing problems. Please offer your thoughts at the proposal and whether or not you support or oppose the idea of a wikiproject dedicated to organizing a more efficient process of getting articles in different languages translated into English.Dr. BlofeldWhite cat 13:00, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Darlin'
Can you help with something (if it needs help, that is).. Take a peek at a record label; the name is spelled Aum Fidelity, but everything about it, from musicians who have recorded on it, to the infobox, and references, all scream that the spelling is wrong, should be AUM Fidelity. I assume this means a redirect, and don't normally touch those (I make too many mistakes as it is!) but it seems someone tried and wound up spelling it the same way again. Thanks. (Signed, The lady with the scrub-brush!)--Leahtwosaints (talk) 22:44, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Technically this warning should go on my page. And be careful about accusing me of being funny (except maybe funny looking). There are undoubtedly those who are incensed and outraged at my suggestion that admin duties don't amount to real work (another instance in a long line of outrageous incivility). And several people make it a habit of getting hopping mad when I make subtle critiques and engage in unhelpful and unconstructive sarcasm. Don't get caught in the crossfire!
Are you going to add those nice drawings from the government website to LoS's plant articles? I think they look cool and are very encyclopedic (some could also be added to the botanist article on the beach of the plants the guy described). And kudos to y'all for the good work on some nice articles. They're not bacon related, but they seem good otherwise. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:00, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
I was going to leave the "warning" on your page, but daft talk page stalkers may have interpreted it as a serious message. I can upload the drawings/images (I just uploaded my 1000th picture on Commons. Yay?), but where are they located and which articles are you referring to? The kudos belongs to Lady; I'm just a big fairy. "y'all" reminds me of my hometown - I miss North CackalackyAPKthat's not my name 18:59, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Need I remind you that referring in the abstract to clueless buggers and troublemakers as daft talk page stalkers may violate some admin's interpretation of NPA or the incivilty guidelines? I think an illustration or two of the plants described by this botanist User:LadyofShalott/Duncan might be nice to add to his article (or maybe the photos of the plants would be better?). To this point it is without illustration or photograph of any kind. Maybe there is a photo floating around of the herbarium??? The plant articles I was referring to are Quercus breviloba, Baptisia arachnifera and Viburnum_rufidulum. I think a combination of photos and those nice illustrations from the USDA (tax dollars at work for the public good!) would be pleasing to the eye and useful for identification purposes. But maybe LoS has other ideas. I hear she likes mirror images? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:26, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh and hearty congratulations on your 1,000th photo upload! That's a very impressive accomplishment. A picture is worth a 1,000 words. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:28, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
I echo the congrats on 1000 uploads of pictures, APK - that's a major contribution! CoM, I like your idea of adding images of the plants Duncan discovered to his article. That would certainly improve it. Thanks for the kudos on the articles. LadyofShalott 04:19, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I see now that some of the newest plant articles don't have photos on the USDA site and that you're way ahead of me in raiding what photos are available from the USDA? ALthough Viburnum rufidulum could use a nice flower shot [11]. Nevermind then... I guess. :) You're welcome for the kudos. Can you believe you just caused an edit conflict! Nothing to say all day, and right when I'm posting this update BLAMMO!!! Here you come. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
P.S., it's Quercus oglethorpensis, not Q. breviloba, that Duncan first described. That article is a very short stub. Expanding it is on my mental to-do list. I also need to mention in his article the fact that all three of those species are endangered. LadyofShalott 04:27, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
(And then we edit conflicted again for my PS). LadyofShalott 04:28, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Nice find of the V. rufidulum flower picture! "Any use of copyrighted images requires notification of the copyright holder." It does say copyright. APK, know if we can we use that here? LadyofShalott 04:34, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
My whole world is turned upside down. First I find out the USDA doesn't have drawings and photographs of some very important species. And now you tell me that the USDA is using copyrighted images on their website. When is the change I can believe in coming? Better get your hiking shoes on, you're on a mission. Let's see, we need photos of the herbarium and these endangered species. If you're lucky maybe they have some in the herbarium, but I doubt it. It's probably gone downhill in a hurry now that Duncan has left the scene. I'll bet they're too busy breeding giant tastless peaches that ship well and frankenpeanuts for commercial interests to bother with mere nature. What is the world coming to? Dear Lady, what do you think of this? Oh, The Bride of Lammermoor did end badly, of course; I should have remembered from the last time I read it (I need to reread a book twice before I remember the plot). In typical Scott-fashion, it ended with a couple of whimpers also. Thanks for your insight, and don't let the chinchillas bite, Drmies (talk) 16:07, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
I think there are articles for which such a template would be fitting. Isn't there a project that creates templates of that sort? You might float it by some of the other folks who do that, but it seems reasonable to me. Did Lucy sing for a really long time before suddenly collapsing? LadyofShalott 16:24, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Haha, note the word 'loosely' in the lead of that article. Thanks for that link--I had no idea. No, she went crazy in the bridal suite (supposedly--the husband never spoke about it afterward) and put a knife to her hubby. She dies a little bit later, without saying much, I believe--I'll go check. She's really an Ophelia of sorts, including some willow imagery. It was a fun read though, but I'm a big Scott fan. I'm going to look for a template work group. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 16:36, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Drat, I was afraid that was the answer. These are the images in question:[12]. PLANTS only has a copyrighted image. LadyofShalott 21:05, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

It's back, for the fourth time... 98.248.32.178 (talk) 03:41, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
At least it says what it's talking about this time. LadyofShalott 03:47, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi!
Just dropped by to say that. I started on The Antiquary. It's tough! Drmies (talk) 04:18, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
And hi to you! :) I was not at all familiar with that novel; enjoy it! LadyofShalott 04:23, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Dawn Cook & Kim Harrison
I just replied to your merge proposal of Kim Harrison into Dawn Cook without knowing at the time that the merge proposal had been posted and silent for nearly three months. Please take a look at my reply and see if that's a good enough case for Dawn Cook into Kim Harrison (the reverse of what you proposed) and likely the resulting cleanup of the KH article which has the real name vs. pseudonym backwards per the sources I found. --Marc Kupper|talk 16:42, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
I have responded there. Thanks for actually taking an interest in this issue! LadyofShalott 19:33, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Ahem...
...I have a request to make of you, dear lady. Please bear with me, and remember that this is all in the name of science. The title of the article "Seminophagia" (and I am putting the quotes there for a reason) is a complete misnomer. An earlier editor had attempted to move it to spermophagia, and that should be the proper title, but was reverted by an editor who seems to claim some ownership over the article. The editor who redirected the page said "moved Seminophagia to Spermophagia: most commonly used in WP:RS" and that is a correct statement; seminophagia does not exist--that is, no dictionary hits, no Google Scholar hits, no Google Books hits, and what is on the internet all seems to come from the Wikipedia article. I am greatly interested in moving (and then gutting) the article, which is full of synthesis and original research; in the end, I think a section on the topic in the main Semen article is all the sources can bear. But that's a later concern--first, would you mind looking into it a bit (keep your latex gloves on--you're a lady) and perhaps authorizing such a move? Or, if not, tell me why? Thanks! Drmies (talk) 18:05, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
First, I have to say gross! Now that that's out of the way, yes we should be titling the article with whatever the scientific literature calls it. I don't happen to know, and have not yet tried to examine any of the cited sources. What little talk page discussion there has been looks like the argument you are making based on sources versus "this is what someone already started". If that's what it really boils down to, then the choice is clear. I have started a section on the article talk page asking to list sources which use each name. This is something we need to get right, but I don't think there's a rush. LadyofShalott 19:19, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Haha, there is a rush--I got all gung-ho. Thanks for looking into this matter, lady. You'll be pleased to know, perhaps, that others are far more squeamish--ChildofMidnight removed a semenic message from their talkpage. You and I, in the interest of objective knowledge, dive into this pearly pool with our eyes open, our goggles on, and our mouths closed. Drmies (talk) 01:05, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
