Speedy deletion nomination of User:Retswerb/sandbox

A tag has been placed on User:Retswerb/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. --TheImaCow (talkcontribs) 07:12, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

@TheImaCow: This is abuse of speedy deletion. "Except for blatant or serious matters, it is preferable to try contacting the user before deletion" (Wikipedia:User pages #Deletion of user pages) The sandbox in question is being used for drafting of a new article and does not fall afoul of Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#U5 in any way. Please stop. Retswerb (talk) 22:51, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Aircraft

Thanks for signing up for this project. It is a very busy and active project with lots going on and we can always use more help and especially a fresh set of eyes. If you haven't done so already you might want to add Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft to your watch list as this is where much of the background discussion occurs. You may also want to watch Wikipedia:New articles (Aircraft) as this is where newly created articles get listed for peer review. Having a look over these new articles is a great way to get a feel for how things are done on the project and also most new articles need reviewing anyway. If you have any questions you can leave me a note or post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft, either way you will get a quick response. - Ahunt (talk) 01:20, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks @Ahunt! Looking forward to taking part. Retswerb (talk) 04:42, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 23

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited San Fernando de Apure, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Antipode. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Great to see you!

Hi Retswerb – thanks for taking the time to talk today! As we discussed there are a lot of user scripts that make editing easier. The one I referenced was Popups, which provides more advanced functionality to the hover previews we talked about. You can enable that by going to Special:Preferences -> Gadgets -> Navigation popups. You'll also see a lot of other gadgets available, many of which are extremely useful. Aside from those, there are a great deal of other custom user scripts that make the editing experience easier; you can find a lot of the ones I use at m:User:L235/global.js and User:L235/common.js. Let me know if I can help at all with those! Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 22:09, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks L235! Great to connect. I'll check out those links, thanks for providing them and for your work on behalf of this community. Retswerb (talk) 09:39, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

I can't find the problem you referenced.

Hi James K McMahon! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at 3D Printing that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Feel free to let me know if you need help, I'm still fairly new but can help point you in the right direction. Retswerb (talk) 03:00, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

I do not see this 28 November in your Read page.

I will go to 3D printing now to look into it. I cannot find it. Did you delete it?

You need to understand something about the history of 3D printing. I worked with people who became involved in 3D Printing. The historical information is old and those I may references are no longer with us. For Example: Juki Manufacturing has been contacted for information about printing with plastics but they have no one working with this any more. Any information they may have had is gone. The man who hired them to manufacture a plastic ink printer, Robert Howard is no longer alive. I called the company he started but they dropped the product line and discarded all documentation related to it around 2000. No one who works there knows anything about the early history. You have asked me about minor edits and I believe I have mad an error choosing this marked box. You do know that these things cannot be reversed after they are entered. I'll try not to ever do it again. I have some much to offer Wikipedia about 3D printing. I hope my contributions will not create difficulties again. Historian and Godfather of Single nozzle inkjets (talk) 18:48, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi James, welcome aboard. Take a look at your contribution page at Special:Contributions/James_K_McMahon and you can see the ones marked with a bolded 'm' are the ones you've marked as minor. Please also remember that information you add to articles needs to be attributable to reliable sources rather than your own original research. Check out WP:OR for more info and let me know if I can help. Retswerb (talk) 04:25, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Cuvier's beaked whale

Hi Retswerb. No trout slaps just thanksfor the message I saw today. I answered you elsewhere. ( On my back page?) Cheerio Watkins-Jorgensen (talk) 09:45, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Copy edit still needed?

Would you please review Cuvier's beaked whale and see if you still think it needs the "copy edit" tag? The tag was removed by another user whose edits were reverted, yet the tag is still missing. Much work has been done with the article since you edited the Talk page on 28 December 2020. Thanks in advance. azwaldo (talk) 23:33, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

I took a look today and made a couple of small edits, the page has certainly come a long long way in the last month or two. I'm content to leave the tag off, if others think it still applies they can reinstate it. Retswerb (talk) 08:22, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Unblock Request

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Retswerb (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

My IP is in a Netskope range that has been blocked due to open proxy rules. The range was formerly also globally blocked but that has been recently revised to become a soft block, see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Global#Global_unblock_for_163.116.128.0/17 for more discussion on this. I have submitted various UTRS requests which have been denied or have expired, I feel the issue may not have been fully understood from my description. My most recent request was set to status 'EXPIRE' with the comment 'I see nothing I can do via UTRS. Perhaps the Stewards will fix this.' but as far as I can tell the global issue has already been resolved by stewards and my restriction is now up to the local block on 163.116.136.0/22 placed by GeneralNotability. I'd be glad to provide more information or answer any questions that may arise, I'd love to be able to resume editing again when possible. If there is a better avenue than this that I should use for my request please let me know and I will do as advised. Retswerb (talk) 00:18, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Ah, that explains it! Normally IP Block Exemption is granted via the process laid out at WP:IPECPROXY. I'm aware that they're quite backed up right now (I was just working on those) - so I'll go ahead and grant you IPBE here. !ɘM γɿɘυϘ⅃ϘƧ 04:45, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Looking at https://www.netskope.com/services, it does not appear to me that they offer internet service. If you are able to help me understand why/how you edit via that range, I can try to help. !ɘM γɿɘυϘ⅃ϘƧ 03:21, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
Frankly I had never heard of them either until digging into this block a little. Per the discussion linked to above, they appear to be a corporate security provider. Much of my editing takes place from a work computer, apparently using Netskope's services. My hope is that I can be given IP Block Exemption so I can continue to edit while logged in. When this block was originally placed back in January I took it as an unintended wikibreak hoping that the situation would resolve itself but I'd love to get back at it now. Retswerb (talk) 04:40, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

IP block exempt

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit the English Wikipedia through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions. Inappropriate usage of this user right may result in revocation. I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. !ɘM γɿɘυϘ⅃ϘƧ 04:45, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Thank you SQL - I appreciate your help with this! I have familiarized myself with the conditions and will comply. Back to editing again! Retswerb (talk) 08:48, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Formatting of discussion thread comments

Regarding this edit and similar ones: as the following is unsolicited advice, please feel free to ignore it, particularly if you are aware of it already. Note the *, :, and # characters introduce different types of lists, and aren't just indent levels. In order to minimize the number of start/end list announcements made by screen reader software used by those with vision problems, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility § Lists and Help:Talk pages § Indentation provide guidance on how to format discussion thread comments. The nutshell summary is if you're the first person replying, copy the prefix from the comment to which you replying, and append the character of your choice. If you're not the first person replying, copy the prefix from the last person who replied at the same nesting level. If you could consider helping to make Wikipedia discussions threads more accessible, it would be highly appreciated.

Going into a bit more detail regarding the effect of your edit for screen readers: you responded to a comment that starts with *: with a reply starting with :::. The comment you were responding to consists of (from right to left) a second-level unbulleted list item nested within a first-level bulleted list item. Your reply consisted of three levels of unbulleted listed items, nested within each other. As this changed the type of the first-level list, screen readers will announce the closure of two lists, and announce the start of three new levels, instead of just announcing the start of one new level if you had used *:: instead. And since the comment below yours starts with *, screen readers will announce the closure of three levels of lists and the start of a new list, instead of just announcing the closure of two lists. This adds up to six extra announcements. Thanks very much for your time. isaacl (talk) 05:23, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

That's helpful, and I appreciate you taking the time to explain it. I saw that previous items had been constructed both as *: and as :* as well as various other colon permutations and incorrectly assumed they were all just different ways of producing the indents. Cheers. Retswerb (talk) 04:40, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

AtYourGate moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, AtYourGate, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi @Autumnlei! I assume you're referring to the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Cape_Air_Flight_2072. While I certainly agree that the event was important, it does not meet the criteria laid out in WP:AIRCRASH to have its own article here. It does, however, already have a mention in the "Accidents and incidents" section of Cape Air, which includes references for anyone looking to read more about the flight and its outcome. Retswerb (talk) 09:09, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of AtYourGate

Notice

The article AtYourGate has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NCORP. No differentiating factor for any food vendor.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the ((proposed deletion/dated)) notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing ((proposed deletion/dated)) will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. scope_creepTalk 15:23, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

I've seen you editing recently and you seem like an experienced Wikipedia editor.
Would you please consider applying to become a New Page Reviewer? Citations in leads

You might want to be careful with "citation needed" tags in leads. I encountered such a tag [this revision of Aerobee], which then got given a citation by another editor. But there was already a supporting citation and statement in the text.

Just don't want you to have to make extra work for yourself. :)
