As far as I know, Vladikavkaz does not mean "Queen of the Caucasus" as stated in the Wikipedia article. A far more appropriate translation FROM RUSSIAN would be "Dominate the Caucasus" (vladi Kavkaz; rus. vladet' = to dominate); it is by the way analogous to Vladivostok = "Dominate the East".
The name clearly reflects the function of the town as the hub for Russian conquers in the Northern Caucasus region in 18th and 19th century. Even today North Ossetia (and especially the town of Mozdok in the nothern part of the Republic) serves as the major regional hub for the Russian war in Chechenya.
Is it really so that the city is known by its old name in Ossetian (officially)?

Vladikavkaz TV Mast is of unique design and there are obviously only 12 similiar masts all in Russia and Ukraine ( TV Tower Vinnytsia is the tallest of them). When was it built and how tall is it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hermes3456 (talk • contribs) 17:45, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Why "Dzæudjyqæu"??? if the right form in Ossetian was Dzæudžyqæu??? --Пъела (talk) 19:21, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
It looks a Byzantine-style mosque, more proper for Russia than other Arabian-like mosques recently built in Kazan or Grozny.--83.57.48.93 (talk) 23:57, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
