Great Northern Transmission Line (GNTL) is an electric power transmission line, to deliver power across the U.S.-Canada border, planned to connect Minnesota Power to Manitoba Hydro. It is a 224 miles (360 km) 500kV line which will be able to transfer 883MW. Manitoba Hydro has contracted to provide 383MW of hydro sourced electrical power to northern Minnesota begenning in 2020.[1] Of this 383MW, 250MW is included in a 15-year Power purchase agreement between Minnesota Power and Manitoba Hydro.[2] p.9
The line will run from the interconnect point on the border near Roseau, Minnesota to Minnesota Power's new Iron Range 500/230KV interconnection substation in the Blackberry Township located outside Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
