Dear Clarityfiend, would you mind if I recreated a page for Thomas Howes (which you and others voted to delete). I am just watching Downton Abbey again - a major (judged by viewing figures and comments) UK TV series, and Howes has what seems to me a sufficiently prominent role to warrant a page. I have added further refs. to his stage and radio career also, which helps I think. I have a draft here: User:Msrasnw/Thomas Howes (actor). What do you think? The Downton Abbey page's redlink on Howes looks anachronistic. RonhJones one of the deleting admins said I should contact you. Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 15:43, 2 January 2011 (UTC))
It looks like I'll need to rephrase the message. Anyway, you can stop delivery here. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talk • contrib) 05:03, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

I've improved the citations, added some material. This has moved me from neutral to Weak Keep, but it's possible I'm starting to get too close to the subject. In any case, the initial AfD posting significantly understates her accomplishments: she's won several national-level U.S. fiddling competitions, has been the sole subject of one RS newspaper article, and also of 5-1/2 minutes of public television documentary (albeit metropolitan/state TV, not national.) Your added input on the discussion (per WP:MUSICBIO guidelines) would be welcome; it's possible she still falls short. Yakushima (talk) 10:19, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Clarityfiend,
I noticed you've been cleaning up the Vorkosigan Saga article after the IP posted about its being confusing, and I'd like to help, but I don't want to get in your way. What is your plan for the article?
I've been thinking for a while (just hadn't had the time to get around to it yet) that all(/most of?) the books should be split out into their own articles. It would make it a lot more readable. The article is currently 42 KB, which is big enough that WP:SIZERULE advises considering splitting. And many other series of this size have separate articles for each book.
So I think I'll probably do that over the next couple days, but I wanted to check that this wouldn't mess up whatever you're planning to do. Also, if you have any suggestions on where I could help out on the article, please let me know. Princess Lirin (talk) 02:17, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.
We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Hi, I'd just started copyediting Battle of Ap Bac as per the WP:GOCE when I noticed that you tagged it is "working" (you were too quick for me :) ). I didn't get far and for what it's worth this is what I did:
The Battle of Ap Bac, also known in Vietnam as the American War, was a major battle fought during the early stages of the Vietnam War. The event took place in Dinh Tuong Province (now part of Tien Giang Province), South Vietnam, on January 2, 1963.
==Background==
Fighting between the South Vietnamese Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and the Communist National Liberation Front (commonly known as the Viet Cong), began in the late 1950s in the Mekong River region. With the advantage of extensive United States aid, the South Vietnamese military were initially able to inflict heavy casualties on the Viet Cong. However, despite fielding armoured personnel carriers and helicopters, South Vietnamese commanders were usually reluctant to press home their advantage, being averse to absorbing casualties that could be detrimental to their military careers. Throughout 1962, South Vietnamese soldiers of the 7th Infantry Division often found themselves in position to trap and destroy battalion-sized Viet Cong units in battles across the Mekong Delta, but their commanders usually allowed the Viet Cong to retreat rather than risk taking casualties.

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.
There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.

Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |

Thanks for the copyedit. Its really appreciated.
Regarding the German and Ottoman force I think the foot artillery and trench mortar do constitute the Austrian artillery and I've cut a couple of semicolons to clarify, hopefully. Regarding the 3rd Inf Div of 3 regiments they apparently totalled 16,000 men of whom 11,000 to 11,873 were combatants. I've included this detail because often times in the literature Ottoman units are said to be understrength.
Regarding the casualty figures - I realise these are not consistent - different sources. Also regarding the table it was copied from the source as it stood and I extrapolated from it to add the totals. Not sure what should be done - what do you think? :) --Rskp (talk) 06:53, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi
The editor who requested the copyedit has been blocked. As a result, the articles that they have requested copyedits on have been examined. The MIT article is already a GA and seems to be in a good state, indeed it seems to be enough shape for the GAR to be dismissed.
It also looks as if you have not started the copyedit, possibly as you have two articles listed as "working". As a result I have deleted the copyedit request. If you have been copyediting offline though, feel free to continue.
Can you also please only put your name to one article from the requests page at a time :¬) Thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 15:50, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
On 6 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Alex McDonald (prospector), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Big Moose from Antigonish was the "King of the Klondike?" You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Hey there. When I edit character articles, I generally use a lot of long quotes from the actors but I only use the block format when it's humungous. For example, I used a lot of heavy quotes on Quinn Fabray, Kurt Hummel, and Rachel Berry. It's just not the typical format I use personally, but I'm not sure if that goes against WP:MOS. I don't think it does, but if it is then I can restore it. HorrorFan121 (talk) 20:39, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello,
As the OP requesting 7-word summaries of Shakespeare, I was extremely impressed by your summarizing skills. You must be among the top summarizers I've ever seen in action. Now, I have a request:
could you summarize the subjects/areas of your expertise (I mean summarize the fields themselves), each with a heroic couplet; i.e. summarize each subject in 2 lines, with one subject following another? So, you would have a heroic couplet for history, one for literature, one for biology, etc.
I was very disappointed, but another person I made this request to was unable to get back to me. :( I realize this is a daunting task. Don't feel judged, but I would feel so appreciative if you would give it an honest go... :)
Here is a go from me at a few things I do know a little bit about, which is communism, computer science, and translation:
“ | The eager "Comrade!" with which the fresh land starts Gives way to "Comrade!" to cover cold, black hearts. |

Thanks so much for trying! 188.28.228.34 (talk) 23:20, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 45 people have signed up for the drive, of which 30 are actively participating, a very high participation rate. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us.
Progress has been less than that needed to meet our target for the drive (which would reduce the backlog by about 400 articles). Remember though, if everyone copy edits one or two articles every day, we will easily meet our goal. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. Reducing the number of articles on this list has been a major success of this drive. Thanks for participating! Your drive coordinators – Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02 and SMasters |

First off, thank you for choosing to copyedit the Maniac Mansion article. Just to let you know that I've still to add some additional stuff in there (which should mostly be in the bottom half of the article), so if you want to take another look after all the extra stuff has been added, that would be great. I didn't realize that someone would copyedit it so quickly after posting it; I thought I would have time to add extra material in there before someone came by to copyedit it. No big deal, though, as every bit still helps in the long run. –MuZemike 00:41, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

I added some information to the last paragraph of the Reception section, so could you copyedit it again? I'm not sure the right meaning was kept here. Local constructors lobbied to have the damaged monuments demolished despite being recoverable in order to have a chance to buy some prestigious lots in city center, to build new edifices but ultimately damaging the community. I understand (but may be wrong) your phrase as meaning that city officers had the building demolished in order to have more space for businesses to get through the hard times. --Jollyroger (talk) 10:20, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Here is your end-of-drive report.
50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.
During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.
Please remember that the GOCE Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated. Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there! Hello clarityfiend,
I see no basis for your opinion that Garbo was not "an accomplished actress." She was indeed an accomplished actress, as any Garbo expert will tell you. Many historians have argued that she was in her greatest roles (for example in Camille and Anna Karenina, brilliant. She won 4 Academy Award nominations and two New York Film Critics awards for best actress. She also won other awards and nominations. This is more than sufficient evidence for characterizing her as as an accomplished artist. All of these awards and nominations are listed in the filmography. She transformed acting technique in silent pictures and developed her acting style using a rigorous technique. I don't think you can you cite many sources who have determined that she was not an accomplish actress. Therefore, I think your assertion is incorrect. Unless you can make a persuasive case for your position I will put this phrase back in--98.74.166.17 (talk) 21:05, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
I get it now. You deleted it because it is redundant. Forgive my hasty response. I don't think being a star and an icon necessarily means one is an accomplished actor. So i think it should re-insert it. Apologies again, --98.74.166.17 (talk) 21:14, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Hello, my name's Billy.
It's difficult for me to understand some of the Events in the Movie called Face/Off
Are you able to answer any of my questions about the Movie called Face/Off? Yes or No.
1. Castor Troy has a girlfriend, Sasha.
2. In the movie, does Troy find out that Sasha gave birth to a kid? Yes or No.
3. When Archer breaks out of the prison, Archer goes to Dietrich's apartment.
4. When Pollux Troy informs Castor Troy that Archer's sitting inside Dietrich's apartment, Castor sends the FBI Team to Dietrich's apartment.
5. Since Pollux & Castor are brothers, it means that Pollux & Castor love each other.
6. Castor & Pollux are evil. Castor & Pollux are not gay. Castor & Pollux are not bi-sexual.
7. Why does Castor send the FBI Team to Dietrich's apartment?
8. Since Castor's sending the FBI TEAM to Dietrich's apartmnet, I know that it's because Castor wants Archer to die.
9. Since Castor's sending the FBI Team to Dietrich's apartment, is it also because Castor hates Dietrich? Yes or No.
10. Since Castor's sending the FBI Team to Dietrich's apartment, is it also because Castor hates Dietrich's henchmen? Yes or NO.
11. Since Castor's sending the FBI Team to Dietrich's apartment, is it also because Castor hates Sasha? YES OR NO.
12. In this movie, does Castor love Sasha? YES OR NO.
13. In this movie, does Castor stop loving Sasha? YES OR NO.

Glad you're on the case. Nice editing. Improves the page; bravo. You're a fiend for tiny little changes, most of which improve but some of which strike me as 6 to one 1/2 a dozen to another! Alas! Also, I prefer "but" to "however" unless "however" is absolutely necessary. Still, all prose can be improved and I'm glad for your interest in this page since Garbo's deserves to be detailed and pitch-perfect. You must be an outstanding writer. So much more to be said about GG. Will try and get back to it next summer. Greetings,--Classicfilmbuff (talk) 16:05, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi CF, I was taught by my brother, a journalist, to use "but" unless "however" is absolutely necessary! Look through a newspaper and you'll see the word however rarely. I think "but" is usually more powerful. It also keeps the momentum going forward, inother words, for pacing, and "however" usually changes the thought process and slows it down. No, no the half dozen remark referred to something I can't remember. But Good to replace Garbo with "her," etc. As for final question, I think the Garbo before name change keeps the entire piece in present tense, so better. FWIF. Hi, Look I'm sorry about the comma drought but its what I was taught - no I shouldn't blame my teachers - but there you are. Also I really thought that putting a comma before 'and' was superfluous. 'Dictionary' provides the following - "Barbara Child claims that in American English there is a trend toward a decreased use of the comma (Child, 1992, p. 398). This is reinforced by an article by Robert J. Samuelson in 23:2007 Newsweek article "The Sad Fate of the Comma." Lynne Truss says that this is equally true in the UK, where it has been a slow, steady trend for at least a century." (Truss, 2004, p. 97–98) I'm just trying to be trendy!! :) :)
Seriously, I'm happy to follow your suggestions but thought I should share with you as you were sounding a bit ... . Really appreciate your work. All the best. --Rskp (talk) 06:07, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.
We have had 55 people sign up for this drive so far, and 31 have participated. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! It's not too late to join the drive if you have not already done so. Another great way to help out is to watch-list the Coordinators talk page and participate in the ongoing development of the Guild.
So far, we have reduced the backlog by 75 articles, or about 19% of our goal. We have also cleared January 2010 off of the queue and are close to clearing off February and March. If each participant were to copy edit two articles from February and March 2010, they would be completely eliminated from the queue.
Several concerns have been brought up this drive about the usage of rollover words. Rollover words only count if they're from the previous drive. For example, if you received 1,000 rollover words in March and didn't participate in May, your rollover words return to zero. This is to encourage participation in multiple consecutive drives. Hello there! I see from the contributors list on Kate Hepburn's article that you have edited it a fair bit, so I'm guessing you have some interest in her. I have also deduced, from your screen name, that you probably enjoy copy editing? If these two inferences are correct, I was wondering if you would be up for giving the page a proof read? I've pretty much completely rewritten it over the last month or so, and I feel like it is comprehensive now, but I know that I'm not the greatest writer in the world. I feel like it's a bit boringly written, and I'm sure I've made grammatical errors. If you could make any improvements to it, that would be great. I'm thinking of maybe putting it forward for a GA nomination in time... Don't feel any pressure to say yes to this though, it's completely up to you! --Lobo512 (talk) 19:03, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Your deletions on the Carpenter (Disambiguation) page appear to me, as well as others, as shown above, to have been done in an illogical and arbitrary, and hence discouraging, manner. Please provide a rationale for your deletions so that we may all share in your thought process and learn from it.Cohee (talk) 00:08, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
It is interesting that you cite a 2010 deleted article as reference. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Carpenter named articles but not the recent 14 Sep 2011 deleted List of fictional characters with surname Carpenter where there was no discussion - just blanket deletion. Where is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional characters with surname Carpenter? H'mm , no listing found. Now you are running roughshod using archane rules that conflict with other rules deleting items from the Carpenter (disambiguation) page? And instead of asking for discussion, consensus or clairification of Wiki rules/policy, you decide what is right? Are you going to create an edit war? Are you an administrator? Maybe it is time to start a real discussion and bring this out in the open. What you you think? Jrcrin001 (talk) 18:19, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.
There were 58 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 42 participated. This is a slight increase from the July 2011 drive participation, where 39 out of 50 people that signed up participated. Thank you to everyone!
During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 146 articles, or by about 4%. Overall we did well, especially considering the exceptionally large number of articles that were tagged during September. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 4854 articles, or by about 58%. If we keep up our current rate of copy editing, the backlog should be reduced by 65–70% by the end of this year. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. Barnstars will be handed out this week. Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in November, and we hope to see you there! Hi, just to say, that there is a strong practice of not starting a sentence with 'however'. Strunk and White, the definitive style guide used by publishers internationally since 1918 states “Avoid starting a sentence with however when the meaning is ‘nevertheless’”. (Strunk and White (2005) The Elements of Style p73.) It's echoed in any number of books on English usage (A grammar book, Edward Good, P 160, Writing with style Jacobi, p107). I know there are other viewpoints but to say 'no such ban exists' is to overlook these stylists. The ban very much exists in some quarters. Span (talk) 13:02, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing that section, this poor article does attract its fair share of unsourced-opinion/fan-mag style writing. Shearonink (talk) 20:53, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
Good editor with a sharp eye, like in Hope Diamond. Like your improvements there and elsewhere.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 14:28, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi, clarityfriend. I have been recently working in the article King Creole. It is under review for GA, and since I know you do a good job with copy-editing I would like to request your help (if you got some free time) It is currently on hold until Thursday 10th. Thanks for your time!--GDuwenTell me! 23:22, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I noticed you're a member of the wikiproject film. I've recently worked on Jennifer Connelly's article along with other user. I'm afraid this needs to be copyedited and I'd appreciate if you could do that. Pay special attention at the usage of colons and commas in quotations and critics since those have been a problem in the past and I'm not sure if are used properly.--Gunt50 (talk) 16:30, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm glad someone is doing such a good job verifying the content, but I think you're taking this a bit too literally. Check out MOS:FILM#Cast to see how we write cast sections or refer to any FA-Class film article for guidance. Wikipedia has its own house style, and we will often modify or change the case of a word to fit that house style, especially when we are dealing with a silent film from 1928. I mean, can you think of a single good reason to spell Tramp as TRAMP? No, of course not. Viriditas (talk) 00:34, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your good work on The Circus. I hope you are able to turn it into a good article! Viriditas (talk) 01:47, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi, Clarityfiend, how are you? Since you've done such a great job by copy-editing Honório Carneiro Leão, Marquis of Paraná I was wondering if you would have the interest on doing the same in Luís Alves de Lima e Silva, Duke of Caxias. I want to nominate it to FAC but I must be sure that the article has a good prose. Do not feel obliged to do this if you're not interested. I won't be upset. Kind regards, --Lecen (talk) 18:08, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

I am both pleased and honored to present you with the Researcher's Barnstar in appreciation for your superb work in finding sources and improving the article Eames: The Architect and the Painter to show it suitable for Wikipedia. Excellent work! Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 01:49, 28 November 2011 (UTC) |
I had added Vicious to the list of people with the name Vicious. He is a rapper out of Lake Charles, LA. He is not as active as he once was, but still has significant noteriety. I do not appreciate you deleting him from the list. I have no problem with you adding the other Rapper named Vicious, but you should not have deleted Vicious from Lake Charles just because you have never heard of him. His songs are readily available on the internet and in music stores. I am not a top contributor to wikipedia, as you are, so I do not have the experience to create a whole page for Vicious from Lake Charles. I only added his name to the list, because I was interested in reading about him and saw that there was no article. Adding his name was the first step and I was hoping someone else would come along and create the page. You added a nice page on the rapper Vicious from Jamaica, but should not have deleted the other Rapper Vicious from the list of names. Please explain to me why this was done. Thanks, Jesse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jesseboud (talk • contribs) 17:51, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

All references to Evelyne are not correct. This is plainly evident by the movie poster that is shown on the wiki page which shows the correct title as being "Adam And Evalyn". My attempt to correct the errors were feeble in that I never tried it before.

Hi, Clarityfiend! How're doing? I'm not here to bother you this time with boring copy-editing! I'd like to wish you a Merry Christmas. Thank you very much for all your help, I'm really grateful. Kind regards, --Lecen (talk) 11:34, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

I haven't Wikilinked the title yet because I proposed a deletion. I couldn't find significant coverages and sources not affiliated with this topic to meet general notability guidelines for this film. It cannot be notable just as a film starring two major stars and Rex Harrison's first film. There has to be more than that, and any existing reviews are too insufficient to help this topic meet GNG. --George Ho (talk) 22:40, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Oh... almost forgot, this film may meet WP:notability (film) if it otherwise does not meet GNG. I could not find anything that may meet "Other evidence of notability"; even if it does, this film's notability may not guarantee a stand-alone article. --George Ho (talk) 23:35, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Hello C. I just want to drop a note of thanks and congratulations for your work on the Confessions of a Cheat article. I was especially impressed with your being able to distill the intricate storyline of the film into an understandable plot section. When I first discovered this director (through the Eclipse DVD box set) I described him to friends as someone who was breaking the rules of cinema three years before Orson Welles. Cheers and have a great 2012 on wiki and off. MarnetteD | Talk 21:13, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
