Hello, I just wanted to take a moment and announce that the July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive has started, and will run for a month. Thanks for signing up. There's a special prize for most edits on the first day, in case you've got high ambitions. Enjoy! ɳorɑfʈ Talk!04:03, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Just a question, why did your GA's get demoted and mine (from the same sock) were left alone? Was there a problem that the sock did not mention in the GAN or something else? And another thing, I've sent you an E-mail :)--White ShadowsThere goes another day19:45, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Luckily, Nascar1996 and I have come up with a solution to fix the prose issues. Hopefully they'll be GAs again once they're finished. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 20:07, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
I want to bring up something that has been troubling me. On the GA nominations page, the Copa Libertadores page has been ignored for a pretty long time while the main reviewers perform reviews and other subjects. I don't want to sound like a nag but other nominees (which are about a week old) have been taken faster than my nomination.
Since this is a mass message to the most frequent reviewers (I only counted four main reviewers), could you at least tell me if an article needs to be a GA before nominating it to become a FA? Or at least point me to a reviewer that could review my nomination? Thanks.
Hello, I recently had the article Road to the Multiverse copyedited by two GOCE members, as the article is currently at peer review, and I hope to get it to FA status somewhere along the line. The article recently underwent a significant expansion, which did happen before the two copyedits of the article, but I was wondering if you could give the article one last look over, in order to prevent any quarrels about grammar, spelling, etc. at peer review. The article is currently listed on the GOCE requests page, so it should count towards the July drive. Thanks. Gage (talk) 04:33, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Looks like another GOCE member copyedited the article today, but I went ahead and did some minor formatting fixes. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 20:57, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Yup, that's what I figured what would happen. Hopefully you'll become a much better editor six months from now. Good luck, and happy editing! ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 20:58, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker.
MZM is right; you're wrong. Stop editwarring over this; you're being disruptive and wasting the time of both MZM and the two people who've tried to explain it to you whom you're ignoring. – iridescent16:02, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
NSD, Stop edit warring over minutiae. Gavia has requested to be put on the exception list because he doesn't want to be in any lists that rank him by edit count. Do you really want to get blocked over this non-issue? –xenotalk16:06, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Hello NerdyScienceDude, your banner background is really good, but is the buttons (links) supposed to be on the right hand side of the screen or is this only with Internat Explorer? --Nascar1996Contribs / Tasks 17:22, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
The buttons should be centered in the middle of the banner. If they are on the right side of the screen, then yes, it is an IE problem. My user space is optimized to display correctly with Firefox and Safari. I am unfortunately unable to do IE testing since I use a Mac. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 17:28, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, Arial can get boring since it's the default font used on Wikipedia. I like your blue and black combination, but I agree on the font change. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 17:48, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
It has more links. If it gets to have lots more buttons like mine, two rows would make it better. It would also look better with a colored background in my opinion. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 03:41, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
I thought so too, but how the style is I didn't see anywhere to change the color. Maybe you could give it a try. My background is lightgrey. --Nascar1996Contributions / Guestbook03:45, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Dang it, I was trying to fix it, and I got an edit conflict notice and an orange bar while trying to fix it. At least you figured it out. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 03:55, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
This always happens like one time I created n article before you noe this. I can't think of a good color how does it look now? --Nascar1996Contributions / Guestbook03:58, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Fixed. I replaced top with code similar to the colored background on my user page. If you want the navigation bar to display in Arial like it did before, I can fix that. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 15:40, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
How do you like the new tables on the 2010 Toyota/Save Mart 350 article? If you do think it is better we may be able to add it to all the chase races, which should be better than the regular season, unless you would think we should start the new table immediately.--Nascar1996Contributions / Guestbook17:30, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Nice job with adding laps led, points, and laps completed, as well as the qualifying, point standings, and manufacturer standings. Excellent job! Maybe we should add these to the other NASCAR race articles. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 18:42, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Hello, I would like your help in rediesigning it, but only if you can help. If you can't, thanks anyways. I have seen WP:APPLE, in which is very similair to portals. I think the NASCAR project is bland, way to bland. So would you? It would be greatly appriciated. Thanks. ~ Nascar1996Contributions / Guestbook23:41, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Your welcome, I found it while searching in all the subpages and I found this, then I completely redone it. I believe it is the first time it has been given since 2008. --Nascar1996Contributions / Guestbook21:56, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Wow. By the way, I'm male; he/she isn't necessary. Just letting you know for future reference. You don't need to change it this time. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 22:16, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Do you know anything else I need to add to the WikiProject. It has organization and standards that others do not have, and I redirected the peer review subpage, which hasn't been edited since two years ago, to WP:Peer review.--Nascar1996Contributions / Guestbook00:49, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
WP:PROTECT states "User talk pages are rarely protected, and are semi-protected for short durations only in the most severe cases of vandalism from IP users." It doesn't look severe, and this was in June. Weeks have past since the protection has been added. IPs and new users also can't talk to you if it's semi'd indef. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 01:43, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I agree that it is rather disruptive and confusing: remember just yesterday? At least make a note in your editnotice until the filter comes along... —mono01:49, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I'll consider it, but I'm not unprotecting it. Look at the log- I've protected it for short durations before, then a few days later, I have (quite literally) 20 different IPs making the same post in under a minute. There are other admins who've been dealing with their shit for years- they don't give up so, much as I hate having to keep it protected, the benefits more than outweigh the costs. And why not raise it with me instead of going straight to RFUP? Surely I've earned that basic courtesy? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:00, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I didn't know the protecting admin should be discussed with in terms of protections like this one. Anyway, HJ is going to be setting up an unprotected talk until the filter comes. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 00:03, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
RFPP says it in bold, If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here. It's good advice for all situations- protecting admins can know something that's not obvious or in the logs- sockpuppetry, bugzillas, etc. Courcelles (talk) 00:07, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
I was using TW to make the request, which means that I didn't have that note in front of me when I made the request. Now I know since you've brought that up to me. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 00:21, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Hiya
Hi NSD, I was wondering how do I create a userpage like yours? I'm not good with this sort of stuff... I really need to learn lol. Fridae'§Doom | Talk to me10:16, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
The main part of my user page is from User:White Shadows. I copied his user page and pasted it into my sandbox, then I made all of the adjustments to suit my liking. I then cut the resulting user page from my sandbox and pasted it where my user page is. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 12:57, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I've a question for you! I'm thinking of taking a gamble and creating an unprotected talk page in the hope that if 4chan strike there, it won't bother me too much. If I did that, is it possible to get the bot to archive it to the same place it archives my main talk page and, if so, can I set them to different timers? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:51, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
The same MiszaBot config used on your normal talk page should also work on the unprotected talk. I don't know about timers though. It would probably archive your main one and your unprotected one one after the other since the bot archives in alphabetical order by username. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 19:19, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
OK, I've just set up User talk:HJ Mitchell/Alternate. Would you mind adding it to your watchlist? I'm also going to use it as an alternative venue for discussions like the enormous one over my userpage so they don't take up valuable space on my main talk page and don't keep triggering the orange bar when I'm in the middle of something! Hopefully it'll mean less edit conflicts as well! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:36, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Hello NerdyScienceDude/Archives/2010, thank you for participating in my recent RFA. I have taken all your comments into consideration and will make sure that I do it right if I plan on doing another RFA. Also, please do have a look at the comments made by other editors and myself, regarding this RFA. Thank you again, and have a nice day! Rehman(+)03:05, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
DYK for 2010 Coke Zero 400
On July 18, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2010 Coke Zero 400, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
After discussing the matter with a checkuser, I have lifted the autoblock at issue and removed IPBE from your account since it is no longer necessary. Did you try logging into the HugeAppleTrees account using the password it posted? T. Canens (talk) 20:12, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
I've added my name to the list. I don't think the race winners are necessary since you know I don't watch those live. For example, the newsletter had the Gateway winners in it, and I haven't watched the Gateway races yet. It's to avoid spoiling the winners to people who record the races and watch them later. Just my thoughts. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 22:05, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Next time we won't hadd it untill the day before it goes out to all NASCAR Wikiproject memebers. Also that only show a part of it. The Nationwide Series race was awesome most defin......opps not supposed to tell. :) It will not go out into production until the first day of August. --Nascar1996Contributions / Guestbook22:09, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
That's one of the ones I created! None of the articles I have directly created have become a GA. Several did get featured on DYK though. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 22:21, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update.
Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue.
Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board.
The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated.
Hi NSD, I see you nominated the above article at GAN on June 9. I am interested in reviewing it in a week or so (if someone else doesn't get to it first). Just note that the article's talk page doesn't have a nomination template on it yet. I've also responded to your comment at my talk page :). Airplaneman ✈01:22, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Can you make the part of my userpage that has the writing (covering the image of the U-boat) transparent again? Right now it's a solid gray and I cannot seem to fix it.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by White Shadows (talk • contribs)
Hey NSD; just a heads-up regarding Marcus's RFA when there is an edit conflict, please don't go ahead and save. This is what happens. For future reference, can you please click "back" and copy over your edit? As you can see, it erased mine. Thanks, Airplaneman ✈00:00, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
All I did was copy over my edit using the diff below the edit box. I don't know why your comment got erased. I have had several ec's without causing damage. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐ • ✍) 00:03, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
It probably wasn't a double edit conflict. I've had that happen to me before, even when I've been careful to copy my comment into the edit box. The safest option is to copy it, reload the page, press edit again, then paste it and hope you don;t get another edit conflict. It takes longer, but you don;t risk removing somebody else's comment in the process, which tends to make them rather unhappy! :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:16, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Conditions were sunny at the start of the race, making the track potentially slippery. Pole position driver Kasey Kahne maintained his lead into the first corner, but Johnson, who had started in the second position on the grid, took the lead before the first lap was over. Kahne suffered an ill-handling car during the beginning of the race, causing him to fall to seventh by the sixth lap. Seven laps before the finish, race leader Marcos Ambrose, turned his car off to try to save fuel, but he could not refire the engine and subsequently stalled. He dropped back from the lead to sixth place with seven laps remaining, allowing Kahne to finish fourth and Jeff Gordon fifth.
There were eight cautions and twelve lead changes among eight different drivers throughout the course of the race, Johnson's fourth win of the season and his first ever at Infineon. The result moved him up four spots to second in the Drivers' Championship, 140 points behind of leader Kevin Harvick and one ahead of Kyle Busch. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, nine points ahead of Toyota and forty-three ahead of Dodge, with twenty races remaining in the season.
I know you did this a while ago, but on July 7 you activated barnalt functionality on The Original Barnstar. I have reverted this, as consensus seems to have been that the original barnstar should stay exactly how it is, because it is the original barnstar. p.s. It makes me glad that somebody else used my template (and with minimal epic fail). -Quinxorin (talk) 18:58, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Some contributors to the motto of the day project choose mottos that they have created or mottos that they like as their mottos to live by on the wiki. Sounds like a good idea, right? Maybe you want one? Oh, darn. You're completely stumped! You know what it wants to express, but you can't find it in your head what it actually will come out to be. Well, you can rely on the more experienced users to help you! We can create a motto, original or quoted, with any subject or message that you choose. All you have to do is go to the requests page, fill out a form, and presto! Within a day or two, you will have a custom motto, delivered to you on your talk page in the template of your choice. It's as simple as that! Simple visit WP:MOTD/MS to get your very own motto! Kayau VotingISevil02:37, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
