Rising Star is an international reality television singing competition based on the Israeli singing competition HaKokhav HaBa (meaning "The Next Star") made by Keshet Broadcasting Ltd. The program format lets viewers vote for contestants via mobile apps.

National versions

After success of the Israeli series in 2013, many television stations throughout the world bought the rights and started broadcasting similar series. Most notable of such stations were the American television network ABC which began airing its first series in June 2014 from Los Angeles.[1] The US edition was also carried in Canada, with advertising simultaneous substitution and voting access on CTV.[2]

Other television stations include the Indonesian RCTI under the title Rising Star Indonesia and the Turkish station TV8 under the title Yükselen Yıldız. The UK ITV channel bought the rights but cancelled its scheduled launch.[3] citing lower-than-expected viwership in similar launches in USA and Germany.
