Noticed that in the breed list, breeds with "collie" in the name are listed together, but other breeds of collie type lacking the collie title are listed separately -- for example, Kelpie, Coolie/German Koolie, McNab, English Shepherds, Shetland Sheepdog and perhaps others. Should they be listed as now, or together under "collie" -- or perhaps both? Any thoughts? Richard New Forest 11:45, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
The Breed list section lists Tatra Sheepdog and Polish Tatra Sheepdog. Is it OK, are those two separate breeds? --CiaPan (talk) 06:55, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
Surprisingly, I found not a word in this article about just how the whistle is blown for each of the herding commands, and just how these sounds are modified when more than one dog is used. Specialized information, for sure, and just the sort of detail that belongs in WP. Here is one source. David Spector (talk) 01:27, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Redundant WP:CONTENTFORK, maybe even a WP:POVFORK. We already merged a bunch of these pointless overlapping articles over the last two years; not sure why this one was left out. See also: Talk:Toy dog#Merge from Toy Group; Talk:Terrier#Merge from Terrier Group; Talk:List of dog breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club#Merge redundant articles; Talk:Fédération Cynologique Internationale#Merge from "FCI [Whatever] Group" pages. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 21:37, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
> Under the herding dogs page the stuff about breeds should be taken out. It should be about the role, uses, training etc of the dogs.
> The herding group page should be about breeds, many of which are pets (or strays or show dogs or whatever), not actual working dogs.
Really all these pages should be rationalised & cross reference each other coherently with a couple obvious deletions:
I don't see why sheep dog would be a page but not herding dog (and I don't see why there would also be Sheepdog trial & Shepherd's whistle without sheep dog)
Part of the confusion is because there is not global agreement in the categories - particularly US K.Club, UK K.Club., FCI Also Maybe historically or regionally the allocation of certain breeds to certain roles and exclusion of all others was/is more fixed in stone but not now in my country. Also remember that people all round the world herding & working with dogs are not so often at desks and less often wikipedia writers, so I think such information is valuable. Probably more of the wikipedia people are pet owners & dog show people or breeders.
I sense a trend that dog breeding / fancying people have a tendency to put lists of dog breeds in articles.

The Border Collie shown herding ducks does not look nine weeks old, and in fact looks quite a bit older. I clicked on the Wikimedia commons link and found out that that said that it was nine weeks old; however, the dog looks like an adult dog and can’t be any younger than six months.
