Many thanks for the additions and the Long Service pocketbook, Victuallers! I've found another hook for Wilmot, which I've added here as an alternative...
...that in the aftermath of the American Revolutionary War, Sir John Eardley Wilmot, a retired Chief Justice, was given a Royal Commission to investigate claims by American Loyalists for compensation for the losses they had suffered as a result of the war?

The invitation is an interesting subject, I am getting closer to whom were in power in Amsterdam at that time. I need to find a book that describes the invasion from a Dutch point of view. Jonathan Israel is good and reliable. Do you know his book on the Dutch Republic?
Not all the Amsterdam burgomasters agreed to support William III and the money involved in preparing a fleet caused a financial crisis on the Amsterdam stock market in 1688, a subject which interests me: see Coenraad van Beuningen. It had also to do with Louis XIV, kicking out all the Hugenots in 1685, dyk? By the way may we can meet in that pub on one of my next bike tours. Taksen (talk) 12:56, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello, can I please request a re-assessment of the International Academy page? I mainly ask this because I have added references to everything and I also am working to delete references that go nowhere (that, unfortunately, some user keeps re-adding). I think it's now above "Start" class (especially if you go through our history and look at how the page used to look - look back to 2005ish and see how it's improved).
In addition, I think it should be ranked at a higher level of importance since, although the page doesn't say this, the school is the first publicly-funded school in North America to be all-IB diploma. It is also considered as the premier center for IB learning in Michigan.
I also am concerned because you cited as part of your start-class assessment of the International Academy page that we haven't linked our notable alumni. The school is only 11 years old. Therefore, we do not yet have any notable alumni, as our oldest graduates are about 25-26 years old. I don't think that a lack of alumni should be a mark against such a young school.
Thanks for considering my request. I would re-assess it now that I am a member of WikiProject:Schools but since I am a new member I don't feel qualified to re-assess it, and as one of the primary contributors to the page I feel like I am too biased a party to give a fair assessment. Hey Victuallers! I haven't found any images for the Lachine massacre page yet, but I have some ideas. Also, while there are first-hand accounts of "roasting children" (it's difficult just writing that!), I'm not sure actual remains were recovered indicating signs of butchery. Therefore, it may be necessary to change the language on the DYK. I'm going to dig deeper into some new sources to confirm the cannibalization reports. Thanks for your help! I agree the imagemap application helps out a lot. How do you go about placing the tags over the image? Trial-and-error? I can probably just look it up in the help section, but I assume the tags are something like [shape, x, y, r, text]. Does it change with varied image size? Runningamok19 (talk) 21:35, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
There is a simple but fine app that allows you to quickly do the placing. I have stored details I think in the source as a hidden comment. Else try this tool

Hi. You once assessed the Los Alamos High School article. I do a lot of maintenance on that article. It's been under disrepair so I could understand why you might have called it "start" rather than "B" (although I encourage you to check out the latest revision), but I really don't get why Albuquerque Academy is rated with "Mid" importance while Los Alamos is "Low". What's the justification behind this distinction? Both are good high schools in the southwest. IMO Los Alamos's history is more interesting than academy. -- Ryan Utt (talk) 19:52, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

(oh, I see you have few WP:AIV edits but that's ok, you can't be on the computer 24 hours a day)
Victuallers is a fine editor whom I am nominating for administrator. He's been contributing since October 2006 and has amassed about 12,000 edits, over 5400 in mainspace. He's contributed to namespace, template talk, user talk pages, and other types of pages making him a well rounded individual. Like me, he listens to BBC Radio 4 (or at least I did when I lived near Calais in France). He's made many fine edits (over 100) to La Martiniere Lucknow and many to Claude Martin, who endowed the school in the 1700's. He has created many articles and helped recognise others by nominating their article for DYK. He has never been blocked aside from a less than one minute interval which the blocking admin noted was a mistake. He works with others cooperatively as demonstrated by his receiving many barnstars. He also has numerous medals and awards, almost as many as a foreign dictator, except he is well behaved. He has mentioned on his user page that he is interested in being an administrator. This candour is advantageous because it suggests he will be honest and forthright with the community instead of having a secret agenda. Having such goals should be seen as a commitment to Wikipedia. Let's give Victuallers the Wikipedia administrator's globe to put at the top right hand corner of his user page and the mop to keep Wikipedia's floors clean! I wanted to thank you for the recognition. I was sure that I was in the 20s, but I had no idea that I had already hit 25. I have truly found DYK to be a fun and enjoyable way to approach editing that helps publicize new and interesting articles. Not unlike writing newspaper headlines, writing a good hook for a new article is a challenge in its own right. One of my recent DYK creations was for an article about Antonio Jacobsen. I was searching through The New York Times for a source about James E. Buttersworth and saw that Jacobsen had lived in the same New Jersey city and was mentioned in the same article, but had no Wikipedia article. DYK gave me a great reason to create a decent article and to let people know about it. Thanks for the recognition and for all of your own contributions to DYK in particular, and Wikipedia in general. Alansohn (talk) 16:22, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much. May I suggest a slight rewording?
I asked Wizardman about your missing hook, and he replied:
From T:DYK/N: My prose count was 1478 characters, which falls just short of the 1500-char requirement, which is the reason I originally removed it. I'll leave it to the discretion of whoever adds the hooks next whether or not being 98.5% of the way to 1500b is acceptable. Wizardman 22:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
I think it's back on DYKNU now. Hope this helps. --PFHLai (talk) 23:21, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I agree that we should make articles look as good as possible, but unreferenced and refimprove tags aren't intended only to inform readers that there are not any/enough references. Adding these tags to an article adds that page to a category showing that it needs additional references, and it helps other users to know which articles need work on references. For more details, see here, here or here. For now, I'll put the refimprove tag back on the article. Feel free to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, Cdlw93 (talk) 21:46, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

I haven't got time to work on this one at the moment but it is a newly created article on a very old and interesting school and a prime candidate for DYK if some more content and a few references could be found. DYK... that Salisbury Cathedral School, founded in 1091 by St Osmund, is one of the oldest schools in the world? Or ...that Salisbury Cathedral School has two world-famous cathedral choirs? Hello Victuallers. No, I wouldn't call myself an "Imagemap Fan" - I just needed to use it for the archives (on the top of my talk page near the TOC). Also, do you get one of those DYK awards if you expanded (a good amount) of an article that was then featured on DYK the next day? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 20:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Victuallers, thanks for your note, which has prompted me to look at the numbering of the articles we have on Dukes Robert of Normandy... Our article Robert II, Duke of Normandy is plainly about the Duke usually called Robert I, or Robert the Devil, or Robert the Magnificent, and not about the Duke usually called Robert II of Normandy, who is his grandson and has an article at Robert Curthose. In the lead of that article, Robert Curthose is introduced as Robert II. We can see why he is sailing under the name of Curthose. I tried to move Robert II, Duke of Normandy to Robert I, Duke of Normandy, but it can't be done except by an Admin, perhaps because there's already a page at Robert I, Duke of Normandy, which redirects to Rollo of Normandy. At Rollo of Normandy we read that some sources call him Robert, but so far as I'm aware he isn't known as Robert I, Duke of Normandy. I'll copy this note to Clio, who may be able to say if I'm missing something before we ask you to Do Something. regards, Xn4 01:06, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm confused by your comments on this item. Were these comments intended to apply to Robert A. Good, or perhaps to some other entry on the list? --Orlady (talk) 19:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
That's what the source says, and I had no reason to second guess it. The US often leads the world in this kind of trend in any case, so I think there's a good chance it's correct. But if you are really concerned about it, I suggest changing the hook to "that Georgia Tech claims its...blah blah blah is the first...?" Gatoclass (talk) 20:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. Hi Victuallers, I was wondering how you do the clicky maps? Is there a help page somewhere on the technique? I was thinking it would be nifty to add clickiness to the range map at a recent featured article on which I worked, Sumatran Rhinoceros. Hi, Looking for info on Encore Computer today, I was surprised to discover that there wasn't an article -- it had been recently speedied for non-notability. This is surprising because the company is definitely notable; on the other hand, not surprising since, looking at the cached article on Google, no one had ever bothered to add references...
Anyhow, I'd like to go ahead and edit the article to establish notability; would you be able to restore it to bring back the edit trail and such?
As a notability placeholder for now, please see:
I'll of course get this or similar info more formally wrapped into the article once it's back up, but this should be enough to at least move it from "speedy" to AfD consideration. Thanks, NapoliRoma (talk) 22:20, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello and thank you for the nomination of the Sparrenburg Castle article. I have to mention that I am just the translator of the German article. Another important thing is that–as I understand–the right name for the castle is either "Sparrenburg" or "Sparrenberg Castle" because "Burg" already means "castle" and the hill on which it is situated has the name "Sparrenberg". Maybe we should move it to the right name first. Kind regards, Tirkfltalk 08:03, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Glad you like this way of dealing with schools which are not necessarily "notable", yet (in my opinion) still have a place in Wikipedia, and especially as part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Cheshire. I was "driven" to this by the addition of a "should be merged with Runcorn" tag attached to one school (which is not a good idea). It took a bit of time but I am quite pleased with the outcome and it may be a sensible model for dealing with schools in other areas. If any particular school is "notable", a separate article could be written about it with a ((main)) tag in the general article. Thanks for adding the links to the redirect pages. I had sort of thought about doing this but had not got round to it. I'm intrigued though why the titles on the Categories page should be in italics - presumably to show that this will take you through a redirect page. Peter I. Also, could possible alternative hooks be some things from the "trivia" section (it will be gone SOON!!! I've reffed one more part, which I will incorporate 2moz... (about London 1622!). Blackpool 166, Prague 180 and Jo'berg 60 should be the next ones up!)? Hi Victuallers,
Heres a reply to your comms!
(It was above, but you may/may not have seen it!)
I think a different hook is probably preferential - there are actually on 13 operational tramcars, as Leeds 180 was withdrawn with electrical problems yesterday. It needs a body lift and a complete rebuild of the resistance box - a big job, and there isn't space for a body lift at the moment in the workshop! No worries about pics! I'll upload those I have to commons later on. Online hook... I guess that means it has to be on a site. If it came from a guidebook, and I copy it to my site, does that count? Thanks, BG7 11:11, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
I've replied to your comments on the hook. The evidence is that the section the station was on opened in October 1901 and Wetsens station closed in May 1902, less than eight months later as per hook. If you can squeeze the article in feel free to do so. Mjroots (talk) 18:39, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi. Any thoughts on this oddity which seems to be a problem with a whole lot of artists? For an example, at François de Troy, on the left of my screen, I can see eight interwiki links, two of them apparently to the French Wikipedia. The last three of the eight (including one French) are real, can be found embedded in the text of the article and lead to real articles elsewhere, but the first five (including the other French) are ghosts which lead only to templates. It's much the same at another article I recently started, Alexis Simon Belle. I can't find anything to show what's causing this ghosting, but the problem seems to be something to do with other wikipedias whith have interwiki links from Template:Infobox Artist. Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. The minimum pressure of 928 mbar (27.42 inHg) was the actual reading in Cuba. I clarified that fact in the article. The 949 mbar reading is estimated for the Florida landfall. Can you correct 949 mbar to 928 mbar in the DYK? Thanks! CVW (Talk) 21:44, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Your school article is a very good start. Refs are good - there are some nice facts. I'd like to propose this for the front page. Is there any chance it could gain about 1000 characters of text about its history and a picture or two in the next 3 days?
I would love to add more, but unfortunately this isn't a good week time-wise. I plan to make a trip through Frederick County in the near future and get pictures of the high schools, but I cannot promise a date. Sorry. But thanks for the recognition. Wallstreethotrod (talk) 17:42, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on Drakelow, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template ((hangon))
to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Bowsy (review me!) 19:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi Victuallers!
I noticed you were a member of WikiProject Education, and thought you might be interested in WikiProject Homeschooling. Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007? (No! Really!) Thanks for all your interest.Cutler (talk) 22:32, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Padfield, Padley-- You have got me confused! ClemRutter (talk) 21:28, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Padfield. Yes- I am honoured- though the way you phrased it, it looked as if I had given it away too!ClemRutter (talk) 22:28, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
I will have a go at the Regs - at least I can pretend that I am working then. I think you might be right about the fair use but I suspect that some of the other articles it's used in might be a problem too.Cutler (talk) 19:53, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I usually feel anonymous when editing Wikipedia so I am surprised that you remembered our exchange of a few weeks ago. Thanks! --House of Scandal (talk) 17:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I was looking forward to a picture slot for a change (Borgqueen doesn't seem to like ship pics much), but I have to agree, the bottle pic is pretty cool :) Gatoclass (talk) 18:28, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Update is ready, would you like to post it? Gatoclass (talk) 16:13, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Well done on this. Definitely one of the better legal articles now. We deserve a pint (also because WBA won 5-1).Cutler (talk) 22:20, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the recognition! How long we can keep all this going before somebody trashes it I don't know but until then ... Cutler (talk) 19:04, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Your nomination for him struck me hard that James Garner invented the gasmask?. There's a famous American actor named James Garner, which you inadvertently hit, and it caused me to laugh. It caused me to think about using the hook and especially the image for the April Fool's DYK! Would you object with saving the DYK nom for 1 April, and then spicing it up a lot? Americans would really appreciate knowing that a famous actor sent two of his associates into chlorine gas filled room, especially with a picture to prove it! Royalbroil 02:41, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
thanks for adding the picture. i couldnt work out how to do it —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hugarh (talk • contribs) 13:45, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Fine indeed. I had worried that people might be getting bored with my obscure seventeenth century naval figures, but I think your hook is a good one! Benea (talk) 22:41, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much for mentioning the article about admiral Wesley L. McDonald on DYK! Quite an honor. Skeet Shooter (talk) 03:06, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Seward and Smith are misidentified/mislinked in the image. Seward is seated but is identified as Smith. Smith is identified as Seward, and both link to Smith when clicked. It's a neat piece of work, but I'm not sure how to fix it. Red Harvest (talk) 14:23, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Yup, I doubt we'll find 24. Even if the updates are 8 hours apart I don't think we have 18-20. I'll try to find an Irish-born baseball player to expand, but virtually all of them are pre-1900, making sources hard to find. I'll try though since we could use some more. Wizardman 20:39, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Vic, didn't you read my edit summaries? I hadn't finished organizing that update. I just finished, and I turned around to find you posted it ten minutes ago! Gatoclass (talk) 16:54, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd really appreciate that if you'd repost the updated version. There are not too many hooks on my monitor, the last one fits perfectly, but I'll leave that up to you whether you want to include it or not, I thought it was a nice quirky one to finish off with. Gatoclass (talk) 17:07, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Hello, I do not completely understand your message. Are you going to nominate the article for a DYK, want me to do it or think that the fact he was not buried in his hometown (upon his request) should be included in the article. --Al Ameer son (talk) 18:58, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

FYI, I didn't edit this article. I just proposed a better hook... —Wknight94 (talk) 14:59, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Okay I'll do a few, but I really should be hitting the sack right now... Gatoclass (talk) 15:23, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Did you upload and protect the image? I don't see ((C-uploaded)). --BorgQueen (talk) 16:16, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
A lovely article and a good hook. I only wish I could say it was mine. User:Bms4880 is I think the proper author, but hopefully he'll approve as well. Kind regards, Benea (talk) 21:48, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Victuallers. I can't find a good DYK hook for Patrick McLaughlin (1909-1988). Also, I've just expanded this by about twelve times from a stub created by Neddyseagoon yesterday, and I'm not at all sure how it should be nominated! Can you help, please? Xn4 02:33, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Interesting article, thanks for suggesting. --Espresso Addict (talk) 03:01, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Bit late now, but I thought we were saving that one for Easter Sunday? Feels like a waste of the rather pretty picture of the white-eye. Espresso Addict (talk) 15:18, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi, on 14 February 2008, you asked for a picture of Archbishop S. Arulappa. I have uploaded a picture as well as a picture of the book he authored. Kindly secure the photos and sanitize them against deletion. Pradeep (talk) 10:22, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
