Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2023 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email) and Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 14:17, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

The article Sheesh! you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Sheesh! for comments about the article, and Talk:Sheesh!/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. On 13 January 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sheesh!, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that both Toyota and Pizza Hut have had commercials saying "Sheesh!"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sheesh!. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sheesh!), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

The file File:You're Makin' Me High (Toni Braxton song - sample).ogg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
sample not proven contextually significant to the whole song in question. also, sample unneeded as free text can help users seek the whole recording outside the project.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the ((proposed deletion/dated files))
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing ((proposed deletion/dated files))
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

I am sympathetic to your situation and will gladly help you with the COI problem if I can! I have experience with that. I am totally neutral and uninvolved regarding your sister's BLP draft article. I commented on the AN as I happened to be there looking at something else.
One small point: You said "@Honest social medias such as Instagram, LinkedIn or Facebook" in your comment at AN. I'm unsure what that means. I suggest avoiding WP:SOAPBOX if you're suggesting that Twitter is dishonest. I like Twitter. Don't alienate people who want to help you, unless my fondness for Twitter makes you consider my assistance unacceptable. It is possible that you meant something totally different with @Honest social medias. If so, please disregard this second paragraph. Let me know on my talk page if I can help with the BLP article. [p]roposal for better addressing undisclosed paid editing. Feedback is being accepted until 24 April 2023.
So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included LunaEatsTuna, Thebiguglyalien, Sammi Brie, Trainsandotherthings, Lee Vilenski, Juxlos, Unexpectedlydian, SounderBruce, Kosack, BennyOnTheLoose and PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! The WikiCup is a marathon rather than a sprint and all those reaching the final round have been involved in the competition for the last ten months, improving Wikipedia vastly during the process. After all this hard work, BeanieFan11 has emerged as the 2023 winner and the WikiCup Champion. The finalists this year were:-
Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year's WikiCup, whether they made it to the final round or not, and particular congratulations to the newcomers to the competition, some of whom did very well. Wikipedia has benefitted greatly from the quality creations, expansions and improvements made, and the numerous reviews performed. All those who reached the final round will win awards. The following special awards will be made based on high performance in particular areas of content creation and review. Awards will be handed out in the next few days.
The WikiCup has run every year since 2007. With the 2023 contest now concluded, I will be standing down as a judge due to real life commitments, so I hope that another editor will take over running the competition. Please get in touch if you are interested. Next year's competition will hopefully begin on 1 January 2024. You are invited to sign up to participate in the contest; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors. You mentioned "previous judgment of editors"...it happens to be me that placed Crockett at VA5 under politicians and elsewhere, the logic being that he held a Congressional seat and was a purported 1836 presidential contender before getting himself killed in Texas (compare Bowie, who I don't believe ever held elected office). This is YET another vindication that politicians, military, activists and jurists need to be a single section (I proposed this at VA3 but nobody seems to understand what I'm saying). If you would like to move Crockett to activists or military leaders, I wouldn't stop you
On a related note, there's a hatchet job going on with removal proposals of American politicians, orchestrated by a couple of fellas who dont seem to know much about American history and institutions. Recent American politicians was their first target and earlier American politicians is next. I fear Crockett may be one of their targets, and even Daniel Webster (one of the greatest American politicians and orators ever) may be a target. I hope I can count on your support to retain Crockett, Webster and others pbp 17:05, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2023).
Hello, TonyTheTiger! It's a shame that the proposal for a top icon has been getting so much opposes recently, it's probably due to the proposal being posted on the centralized discussions and as so it attracted many people who don't understand nor care about the Vital Articles WikiProject. I think it would be only fair to ping a few VA active users to try to counter-balance it. What do you think? The Blue Rider 20:35, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

On 23 December 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Campbell's Soup Cans II, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a Hot Dog Bean screenprint from Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans II sold for $258,046 in 2013? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Campbell's Soup Cans II. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Campbell's Soup Cans II), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Tony – not sure where your article creation motivation lies these days, but I've been chipping away at the Ivy League POYs this year and I've gotten it down to 4 red links. Among them, one remaining Princeton player, Sean Jackson (basketball) (1992). I know you're a Princeton guy, so I thought I'd throw this player out there for you just in case you have the proclivity. No pressure either way. SportsGuy789 (talk) 20:47, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
The article Campbell's Soup Cans you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Campbell's Soup Cans for comments about the article, and Talk:Campbell's Soup Cans/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility.
