It was the the 96th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League/Australian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1992 AFL season. The match, attended by 95,007 spectators, was won by West Coast by a margin of 28 points, marking the first premiership by a team based outside the state of Victoria.
