Legoland Sichuan is a planned resort located in Shigao, Tianfu New Area, Sichuan. The resort started construction on June 8, 2020, and is planned to open at the end of 2023.[4]
The project is led by Merlin Entertainment. On 27 September 2019, Merlin and Global Zhongjun announced a Legoland Resort in Sichuan Province. The resort was scheduled to open in 2023[5]. However, this date was pushed back to 2025.[2]
The resort area is 57 hectares[1], with a building area of 159,000 square metres spread over 10 themes areas.[6] The estimated construction cost is 30 0000 0000 Yuan[7]
Progress
- On Feb 6, 2018, Global Zhongjun Cultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd and The Chengdu Global Century – Exhibition & Travel Group signed project agreement with Merlin Entertainment, UK.[3]
- On Sep 16, 2019, Legoland Sichuan Project ceremony was held in the Lego Headquarter - Billund, Denmark.
- On Sep 27, 2020, Legoland Sichuan Resort had news release in Meishan, Sichuan.
- On Sep 27, 2020, Merlin Entertainments also announced that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Global Zhongjun Cultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd (“Global Zhongjun”) to build and operate a LEGOLAND Resort in Sichuan.[3]
- On June 8, 2020, Legoland Sichuan Resort started construction.[1]
- On Oct 22, 2021, General Manager of Merlin Entertainments (Southwest China), said the resort will include a Legoland Theme Park, a Legoland Water Park and two Legoland Themed Hotels with 500 rooms.[1]
