Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add ((Edit fully-protected)) to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among ((Edit protected)), ((Edit template-protected)), ((Edit extended-protected)), or ((Edit semi-protected)) to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the ((Edit COI)) template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

AutoWikiBrowser[edit]

User:Rachel Helps (BYU)[edit]

Community members have requested that I add a "connected contributor" template to all of the pages I've worked on during my employment at the BYU Library. I would like to use AWB to add that template to all of the articles in Category:Harold_B._Lee_Library-related_articles. Since I've never used AWB before, I'm not sure if it's the right tool for this task, but another user said I should be able to add a talk page category using AWB. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 19:16, 29 March 2024 (UTC) Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 19:16, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

I was the one who suggested AWB...it came to mind because of its list making capabilities. It takes some learning upfront, but once you figure it out, it makes the edits pretty quickly. (I don't know if it would speed up this task or not when you add in the time spent figuring it out.) The way I remember it working is you use AWB to make a list of all the pages that meet a certain criteria, like being in a specific category, or being linked from a maintenance page in your userspace. Then you can make a second list of pages that meet a different category, like all the pages you've ever edited. Then you can combine the lists, keeping only the pages that are in both lists (intersection) and voila you have all the pages you need to add the template to. Then you can create an edit that adds the template to the associated talk page, give it an edit summary, and hit the Submit button 200 times.
A possible alternative to learning the new tool would be to define a clear task and post it at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks where an experienced user will do it for you. ~Awilley (talk) 16:58, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice, Awilley. Do I need to create a separate bot account for use with AWB? Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 15:34, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Joris Darlington Quarshie[edit]

I've familiarized myself with AWB's functionalities through the English Wikipedia documentation and am confident it can significantly enhance my contributions. AWB automates repetitive tasks like adding citations, fixing formatting, and adding categories, freeing up my time to focus on higher-quality edits that require in-depth analysis and judgment. This will allow me to make more substantial contributions to English Wikipedia in a shorter timeframe.

AWB minimizes the risk of errors introduced by manual editing during repetitive tasks. This will be particularly helpful for tasks where even minor inconsistencies can be distracting or disrupt reader flow (e.g., quotation mark styles, bullet point formatting).

By granting me the rights to AWB, I will be able to dedicate more time and energy to utilizing tasks like improving the accuracy and comprehensiveness of content, adding insightful references, and expanding on under-developed sections of articles.

Lastly, once I gain experience with AWB, I can potentially mentor other editors on using the tool responsibly. This will foster a collaborative environment and empower others to make efficient and positive contributions to English Wikipedia. JDQ Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 19:32, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

Requests for extended confirmation

Extended confirmed[edit]

User:Markus Prokott[edit]

3,896 edits under my account, Benutzer:Markus Prokott, in DE-WP — 118 here. Account age is met in DE- & EN-WP (registered 2006-09-12 & 2007-05-22, resp.). Markus Prokott (talk) 00:05, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Not done. Thank you for your contributions on DeWiki and here. However, the right is for people who have made 500 edits on the English Wikipedia, so you do not appear to qualify as of yet. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 01:54, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
Oh, did I get it wrong? I was «requesting confirmation for a legitimate alternate account» – as indicated at this pages header. The text there includes «Pseudonyms used to edit sister projects in a different language», so I thought, edits in sister projects are included. Markus Prokott (talk) 16:23, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
Me again: Sorry, here's the right text: «Extended confirmed users». (The above one isn't specific to EC.) It allows granting of EC «for legitimate alternate accounts of users who are extended confirmed on other accounts», incl., as mentioned above, «Pseudonyms used to edit sister projects in a different language». It doesn't mean, it must be granted, but seems to rule out the argument, that EC is purely for users on the English Wikipedia. Markus Prokott (talk) 07:51, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
If you have another account on the English Wikipedia which already has extended-confirmed, then it can also be applied to this account. There are several permissible reasons to have an alternate account, but not all of them allow transferring of user rights. The wording you are referring to means that it is permissible to have completely separate accounts, for example, "UserA" to primarily edit dewiki, but "UserB" to primarily edit enwiki, and that would mean that UserB's extended-confirmed on enwiki could be applied to UserA on enwiki too. It does not refer to your example of using the same CentralAuth account on both wikis. If you have an alternate account on enwiki which already has EC, please let us know and we'll reconsider.
Extended confirmed (and the associated editing restrictions and page protection associated with it) is intended to ensure that you are familiar with enwiki's procedures and policies. As such, edits on other projects are not taken into consideration when granting EC. stwalkerster (talk) 21:14, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
Ok, I see. It's understandable.
But if it's really only for Doppelgänger¹ within EN-WP, the given sentence under «Extended confirmed users» and its link to the general «legitimate alternate accounts» (which explicitly includes «sister projects in a different language») is unnecessarily misleading. Shouldn't we change it to e.g.:
«… legitimate alternate accounts in the English Wikipedia of users who are extended confirmed on other accounts in the English Wikipedia.»,
or:
«… for legitimate alternate accounts of users who are extended confirmed on other accounts (both accounts must be in the English Wikipedia).»?
If you are not 100% sure, I might propose the change on the page's talk, at first.
[¹ This is the German plural of the word.]
Thanks. Markus Prokott (talk) 13:51, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
Requests for event coordinator

Event coordinator[edit]

User:Ceribrit[edit]

I am an academic who is incorporating Wikipedia editing into their coursework following participation in Wiki Edu's Scholars & Scientists program in 2022. This year (2024) I ran an edit-a-thon as a lab exercise for physics students and then a campus-wide edit-a-thon at the Wentworth Institute of Technology, both with the aim of improving biography articles about women in STEM fields. While both events were organized with the Programs & Events Dashboard, students still ran into account-creation issues. During the most recent edit-a-thon, an administrator in attendance temporarily granted me event coordinator status and this was helpful in overcoming these issues. I plan to continue hosting similar events at least once a semester and to act as a resource on my campus. Event coordinator status would help significantly with this work. New page reviewer[edit]

User:Shashwat986[edit]

I have been tagging and flagging new pages for a long time, but with a lot of infrequency. However, since I'm unable to mark a page as patrolled, I'm not able to help reduce the workload on the rest of the editors here. With this permission, whenever I'm looking into new pages, I'll be able to make more of a difference. Shashwat986talk 07:04, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has 372 edits in the mainspace. MusikBot talk 07:10, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
My edits are lower than the threshold of 500, but that is due to my work on New Pages. As a result of my work, I have over 1200 edits in User_talk pages (implying around 800 pages successfully deleted). If the 500 is still a hard-cutoff, I withdraw my request. Shashwat986talk 09:12, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
@Shashwat986: It's flexiblish, but explicitly doesn't include deleted edits – we're looking for people with experience improving articles as well as deleting them. I can see that you were quite active in new page and CSD patrolling in 2010–13, but since then you've been almost completely inactive. Welcome back! The CSD are basically the same as they were then, but the kind of new pages we see has changed quite a lot, as have community expectations on sourcing, notability, etc.
Based on your prior experience, I'd be willing to grant you the right despite not meeting the formal criteria (with the usual one-month trial period), but could you please first confirm that you've familiarised yourself with the current guidelines at WP:NPP? – Joe (talk) 18:03, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
Hmm, though I have to say Moneyview gives me pause. Could you explain what prompted you to write that article and where you found the sources? – Joe (talk) 09:17, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
I'm working in the financial technology sector in India, and I've done a lot of research in the field. I was planning to start with Moneyview, since I've used the app a lot more, and there was a draft page to jump-off of. The plan was to write articles on many more companies in this space, since it seems underrepresented on Wikipedia. I'm realising, after creating the article, that it's coming off a lot as WP:PAID, which is understandable, but inaccurate. Shashwat986talk 04:26, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Toadspike[edit]

Hi there, I just had a redirect, Movie distributor, reviewed almost four months after I created it. I'm shocked at how long that took and I would like to help out with NPP. I fulfill the criteria and have experience with AfD, AfC (as as reviewer), and have created a few articles (Anna Pestalozzi-Schulthess, 5 Broadgate are of higher quality, Péter Magyar, Tuas Lamp Post 1 are of lower quality but still notable). I admit that I've rarely, if ever, used speedy deletion, but I know what the broad categories are and will refer to WP:CSD whenever I need to. I will start out with easier cases, like that redirect I mentioned, to get the feel of things before making any split-hair decisions. Toadspike (talk) 09:56, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your reviews so far. They all look good to me. You might give WP:ATD a bit more consideration, but passing over or sending things to AfD when you're not sure is the right way to go.  Done. – Joe (talk) 11:12, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Pbritti[edit]

Requesting a trial period of a month or less (dealer's choice) to address the backlog. I was previously granted this permission last summer but resigned them after a request to do so stemming from my repeated draftification of articles on potentially notable subjects that were created by disruptive editors (a more detailed accounting of that can be found in the discussion that took place on my talk page). Essentially, I wouldn't do that again, instead following the current NPP best-practices of leaning on more procedural alternatives like PROD, AfD, and improvement tags. I have a good amount of experience in AfC, have participated in a decent number of AfDs, and have a strong track record with my own article creations. I can provide additional context or affirmations of understanding of the current NPP standards as requested. I would prefer a trial period of at least two week so that my use of the permission can be observed and critiqued with enough examples. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 18:47, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

@WizardGamer775 Really don't know. Other people who have come after and before me have become accepted, so I'm not sure. Mseingth2133444 (talk/contribs) 14:27, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Waylon111[edit]

Here's the criteria I have for being a Pending Changes Reviewer:

1. I have a account 3 years old (although I have started picking up editing beginning November 2023)

2. I think I have a good editing history, and a good track record.

3. I understand what's vandalism and what isn't (accidentally misspelling a word during your edit is in good faith, but doing things like changing the date of a movie from 2024 to 1956 is vandalism)

4. I know the basic policies, WP:BLP, WP:V, WP:!, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV.

5. I know that you cannot violate the Copyright policy. (WP:C)

6.I understand the guidelines on reviewing.

But, you may ask, why do I want this permission? My answer is, to help people out on Wikipedia. If someone makes a edit that might not be correct, I could correct them on their edit. And I would like to use this tool to help "implode vandals", as the cool kids say. :) Waylon (he was here) (Does my editing suck? Let's talk.) (Also, not to brag, but...) 03:27, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Just a suggestion, but continually republishing your request will make your request go through slower, not faster. Also, if the bot is wrong, let it be wrong. TheTechie (formerly Mseingth2133444) (t/c) 16:08, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Rydex64[edit]

Reason for requesting pending changes reviewer rights Rydex64 (talk) 16:09, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

1. I have a track record of good edits on Wikipedia and almost no reverts on my edits.

2. I have contributed over 8+ articles till now.

3. I have reverted vandalism multiple times using live recent changes and understand what is vandalism and what is not.

4. I am aware of WP:BLP, WP:VD, WP:NOT, as well as WP:V and WP:OR

5. I am aware of WP:CV

6. I am very active on Wikipedia.

Looking forward to getting access to the tool to improve Wikipedia! Rydex64 (talk) 16:09, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi Reaper1945 Rydex64, you may have been misled by the request above yours, which looks so formal and structured that it may well have looked mandatory to copy that text. However, everyone needs to write their own request. You'd be welcome to simply directly do so; you don't need to wait. Just write your own text, please. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:27, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

User:WikiHuman2021[edit]

I have a good track record of edits on Wikipedia currently standing at over 6700+ edits.

I am extended-confirmed, with loads of experience with editing over the past 3 years.

Daily I deal with vandalism and am fully aware about what is vandalism and what is not by identifying and reporting numerous instances of vandalism.

I am familiar with BLP, NPOV, NOR, Verification, and what WP is not.

I am familiar with copyright on WP.

I have fully read and understand the guidelines on reviewing.

Kindly requesting permission because of these reasons. WikiHuman2021 (talk) 01:05, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Sunnyboi18[edit]

Hi, I'm requesting permissions to Review Pending Changes for a few reasons, and hope ya'll will consider me. First, I've made 600+ Edits, including many of signifigance to multiple pages on various different Social/Historical topics. Second, I've extremely rarely ever had my edits reverted and that's been due to someone feeling my citation was not the best, but I've not had any major compliants. Third, I vote in the Picture of the Year & Arbitration Committee Election, and I'm familiar with WP Guidelines and Copyright. And I just enjoy getting to help have accurate and up to date information on Wikipedia, considering how many folks use this for information. And I'd be more than willing to take on the responsiblity of helping to ensure that continues and is done well. And I'd just like to thank whoever is taking the time to read this and hope to hear back soon, and thank you work that you do, you're the reason Wikipedia is sucessful :). Hello, I want to review pending changes and reduce the workload. Lionel Cristiano? 17:30, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Not done for the same reason I declined I declined this request for rollback and for this very troubling exchange on my talk page. cc: @ToBeFree -Fastily 20:35, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping. As the request here was newly made just a day after the above-linked exchange, and as the rollback request was declined just a few days before that, I'm a bit confused. I think I'd recommend waiting at least half a year before making further permission requests, but perhaps I'm overlooking something. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:22, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
I just wanted to make a little joke. I am sorry about that. Will this happen to me every time I add a request? @ToBeFree @Fastily Lionel Cristiano? 23:43, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
Lionel Cristiano, if you wait at least half a year before requesting permissions again, and if you openly disclose that your request was previously declined due to unnecessary/joke edits, and that you have learned from this, I think it will be okay. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:49, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. Lionel Cristiano? 00:27, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

User:FortunateSons[edit]

I care about our encyclopaedic purpose, and allowing newer users to contribute is important to ensure the longevity of the project and a productive participation by new editors.

Throughout my time on Wikipedia, I regularly and actively used talk pages as well as projects and the RS noticeboard, and have shown an ability to understand and apply policy.

I have actively edited in the past and intend to do so in the future.

Receiving this right would allow me to assist in improving the project.

Thank you in advance for taking the time! FortunateSons (talk) 22:24, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Reaper1945[edit]

To correct my previous request, I believe it would be good for me to have these permissions so I can better help with the order and cleanliness of Wikipedia. Not only have I been an editor on here for several years, gaining plenty of experience over my time of being on here, but I have also learned and read the policies of Wikipedia, including those such as having a neutral point of view, no original research and verifiability. Also, random IPs or malicious editors quite commonly vandalize Wikipedia or make edits on pages where they wouldn't be easily seen, thereby distorting the accuracy and reliability of Wikipedia, it also occurs commonly during the making of contentious pages or popular pages, and I believe I could help prevent this. I have also gone over each and every single one of the criteria to receive this permission, so I understand its importance. I believe being granted this permission would be beneficial to further helping the site. These are my reasons for requesting the permission. Reaper1945 (talk) 23:38, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Reaper1945, was an AI involved in the creation of this text? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:52, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
No? Reaper1945 (talk) 02:19, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Don't know if that's supposed to mean I'm incapable of writing like that or a compliment. Reaper1945 (talk) 02:20, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification – I mean neither of these two; my concern was that the text appeared quickly, is written very eloquently but without really specifically addressing the pending changes reviewer permission. It even uses "permissions" in plural, and the reviewer permission is not needed to revert vandalism or bad pending changes. Most of the text could just be copied to any permission request.
If you see a pending change, what do you check for before accepting it, and what do you not have to evaluate? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 12:04, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Understandable, I just made the new request basically the minute after you commented and said not to wait. Regarding what to look for in pending changes, the criteria basically comes down to making sure it does not contain blatant vandalism, inappropriate remarks such as insults or similar problems, violate copyright or is in conflict with the biography of living persons policy, those four points makes the reviewing for pending changes clear-cut. Also, if an edit does not improve an article, then it can be reverted. Basically all of that is what I should look for. Reaper1945 (talk) 13:01, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Looks good to me. Reaper1945, just keep in mind that a change doesn't have to be perfect to be accepted: Reviewing doesn't mean that you fully approve an edit as if it was your own edit. You could even disagree with the edit and still accept the change, then consider improving it afterwards. As long as it was made in good faith and doesn't violate basic policies, reviewing is fine. ("Reviewers do not take responsibility for the correctness of edits they accept.", "It is not necessary for you to ensure compliance with the content policies on neutral point of view, verifiability and original research before accepting[...]", WP:RPC) ~ ToBeFree (talk) 14:03, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Understood and will keep those points in mind for the future. Reaper1945 (talk) 14:08, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

Reason for requesting pending changes reviewer rights

I have been an active user for 17 years and have Rollback rights. I am mainly involved in the Songs project and often need to patrol a page where unsourced and incorrect information is often re-added. Having the ability to use Pending Changes would simplify this matter. Bigar (talk) 18:30, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

User:TheGreatestLuvofAll[edit]

I have reverted vandalism from IPs and users who made tests, added unsourced content, and making purely disruptive edits to articles here. I have been doing this for about a month now. TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 15:44, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Tapmani[edit]

I am actively creating articles and when I am not working on new articles, I spend the time in trenches combating vandals. Having this right will greatly make the work easier. Tapmani (talk) 06:38, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits. Why? Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy? -Fastily 07:24, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
When I started patrolling Recent Changes, the warn user feature in Twinkle was not functioning and when I realised the issue I went back and changed the settings and started warning users. This is the reason you see fewer warnings. Now I warn users that I think should be warned and I will continue to warn them. Tapmani (talk) 08:09, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

User:14 novembre[edit]

I meet the requirements, and I think that rollback rights could help me work more effectively on contrasting vandalism. Kind regards 14 novembre (talk) 🇮🇹 15:45, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Sink Cat[edit]

I believe that I can more easily combat vandalism as I already have been doing (see Contribs) by having the access to this permission. Sink Cat (talk) 20:17, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Begocc[edit]

Hi, i've been patrolling vandalism for some time, on recent changes and filter log, and wanted to request rollback to use other tools like huggle or antivandal, as well as using my current tools better. Thanks! begocc questions? 10:00, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

User:MrBauer24[edit]

I have been editing Wikipedia for some time. I am now an active user, and I take part in a lot of activities, one of which is anti vandalism. I love helping out on WIkipedia and I love to do RC patrol. I currently use RTRC, but would love to move over to Huggle, which I have been interested in using for a while. I would love to be given this chance, and I will ensure that I work hard on performing quality RC patrol, ensuring that I leave messages to users as I do so. I am disinclined to grant this; it was suggested to you that you should have this permission but I don't really see any evidence of you needing it. While you have made more than the indicated two TPERs (I count 5-6), they are simple/trivial updates and thus I have not added them into the guideline count. In other words: are you simply making this request because someone said you should, or do you think you actually need this permission? Primefac (talk) 13:30, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
