India maintains 9 paramilitary forces: six Central Armed Police Forces, the Special Protection Group, the Assam Rifles, and the Special Frontier Force.

List of Paramilitary forces

Excluding the Assam Rifles rifles that fall under the Ministry of the Army and the Special Frontier Force that falls under the Research and Analysis Wing, the Special Protection Group and the six Central Armed Police forces (CAPFs) come under the Ministry of Home Affairs from March 2011. From 1986 to 2011 the CAPF were considered as Central Police Forces (CPO).[1] However, as per their respective acts they all are Armed Police Forces.[2][3]
